Disney Taps Jon Chu to direct Movie version of Matched

The bestselling dystopia trilogy Matched by Ally Condie, is the hottest book around, and not just only for its sale figures. Disney and Offspring Entertainment have acquired the film rights to the Matched series recently and now the studios are looking for cast and crew members to bring the first book of the trilogy to the silver screen. According to The Hollywood Reporter Jon Chu (Step Up and G.I. Joe: Retaliation) is currently in talks with Disney to direct the adaptation. Michelle and Kieran Mulroney are already on-board to write the script while ‘Rock of Ages' duo Adam Shankman and Jennifer Gibgot will produce it.

There’s no doubt that this adaptation will draw a lot of comparisons to The Hunger Games, but apart from the premises of dystopia and rebellion, Matched is different enough and good enough to stand on its own merit.

The future holds almost everything. We never exactly know what it will bring us next. Only that it will help us. And destroy us. Matched by Ally Condie is a world set in the future where the society decides who you wed, where you reside, what you eat, what you do and when you die. You have no power over your life and they will not take no for an answer. Cassia, the main character, sent into the city to meet her match. She's pleasantly surprised to learn that it is her best friend Xander. But then a PC error displays the face of Ky, Cassia learns that maybe the administration is wrong and that they should not have total control.
