Phoenix are one of the most excellent groups to come out of France in the past one and a half decades along with Daft Punk and Air, two of my favorite musical loves, and quite a few other groups that formed around the same time. Prior to Air became America's favorite French duet, Phoenix were their backing group. So when they released their first record “United” in 2000, the surprise was that they sounded neither electronic nor French – lead vocalist Thomas Mars, who might have hailed from US or UK, had the talent to sing in English. In my opinion, Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix is the best album that they have released to date. It is filled with finely-crafted tracks mixed with electronic rhythms, loud guitars and Thomas Mars' outstanding vocal talents.
After almost four years since their last album, Phoenix return with a new studio album “Bankrupt!” set for release on April 22, 2013 through V2, Loyauté, Glassnote. The band has also revealed their upcoming world tour dates in support of their new album.
