Michael Cuesta’s Kill the Messenger has Found its Female Lead

Actress Rosemarie DeWitt (Your Sister's Sister) will be the female lead in the upcoming political thriller Kill the Messenger. Michael Cuesta (Homeland) will direct the adaptation while Jeremy Renner (The Bourne Legacy and The Avengers) is already on board to play the lead character of Gary Stephen Webb.

The film is based on a true story of the US journalist Gary Web, who became renowned in the nineties mainly due to his controversial articles about the CIA connection to organized drug trafficking in South America. This led to lose his job and several years later he was found dead under mysterious circumstances. The authorities confirmed his death a suicide.

Peter Landesman ("Trade - Welcome to America", "Parkland") will write the script based on two novels "Dark Alliance: The CIA, the Contras, and the Crack Cocaine Explosion" by Gary Web and Nick Schous "Kill the Messenger: How the CIA's Crack-Cocaine Controversy Destroyed Journalist Gary Webb ". Focus Features will produce and distribute the film in NA.
