Sir Elton John will marry his partner David Furnish

After over 20 years together, Sir Elton John and his partner David Furnish decided to get married. Since 2005 they have been living in marital union, but decided to take advantage of the law that now allows marriage between same-sex couples in England and Wales.

In an interview for NBC, Sir Elton John said “I'm very proud of Britain and the laws”. The singer remembered how hard it was to be gay in Britain of the 50s and 60s when homosexuality was considered a crime.

"We shouldn't just say, “Oh, well we already have a civil partnership. We're not going to bother to get married.'' We will get married,” said the singer.

Contrary to what one might expect, this time the ceremony will be more discreet - the civil partnership of Elton and David was celebrated at a party for 650 guests. Furnish notes that they now have two children and that everything will be different.

According to him, the two should just go to the registry office with their children and a couple of witnesses and sign the necessary papers.
