Moto Z vs Moto Z2 Force: Which is better?

Motorola recently revealed its new top-of-the-line smartphone, the Moto Z2 Force. The phone comes with dual cameras on the back. And in front, a screen with five layers of protection that makes it virtually unbreakable in accidental falls.

The mobile is priced higher than the advanced model Moto Z2 Play , will be the only replacement for the Moto Z Force, which was not sold in the domestic market. To justify the investment, the phone also brings design changes and more robust internal hardware to run Android 7.

Design

The Moto Z2 Force has followed the trend of design update seen in Moto Z2 Play, with more refined finish and new digital sensor, which now accepts gestures. The aluminum used in the housing is the 7000 series, which offers more durability and is the same applied by Apple on the iPhone 7.

The dimensions are practically the same as the Moto Z and Z Force, except for the thickness. At 6.1mm, the Z2 Force is thinner than the iPhone 7 and is in intermediate position compared to last year's models, which have 5.2mm (Moto Z) and 7mm (Z Force) thick. The same goes for the weight, with 143 g that slightly exceed the Moto Z and makes the launch lighter than the Z Force.

On the back, the Moto Z2 Force brings the same magnetic connector seen in the first generation of the Z line to couple the Moto Snaps . The phone is compatible with the same accessories that add features to the entire family of premium and premium smartphones from the manufacturer, including the JBL Sound Boost 2 launch.

In resistance to water and dust, nothing changes.

Screen

Motorola's new smartphone brings superior "unbreakable" screen technology to the Moto Z Force. Call of Shattershield, it has five layers of protection that guarantee total integrity to the display even with drops of 2 m in height. In our tests conducted at the launch event, the promise was true. Despite some markings on the aluminum housing, the screen remained intact with impact of 1.8 m.

Motorola guarantees that the Moto Z2 Force is able to survive any accidental fall from day to day. It was the same promise, but with less guarantee of effectiveness, made for the Moto Z Force of 2016.

Resistant - something similar was present in the Moto X Force of 2015, which is no longer manufactured.

In terms of image quality, hardly any change compared to the previous generation. The Moto Z2 Force features the same 5.5-inch screen with Quad HD resolution (2560 x 1440 pixels) from the previous generation. The only change is in display technology, which passes from AMOLED to the similar P-OLED, which has flexible structure.

Camera

Along with the screen, the biggest highlight of the Moto Z2 Force is the dual camera in the rear, which follows the market trend led by Apple with the iPhone 7 Plus. Like the apple smartphone, Motorola uses a second sensor on the cell phone that makes it easy to identify the depth in the image to apply a blur effect to the background. Thus, photos of people and objects tend to get results similar to those of professional cameras - and without the imperfections of editing applications with artificial effects.

The rear sensors capture photos at 12 megapixels - similar to the iPhone and the Galaxy S8 - but one of them only works with black and white images. The idea is that one camera captures the maximum color, and the other all the details. In this way, it generates a unique image rich in definition after processing.

None of this is present in Moto Z and Moto Z Force predecessors, which featured simple 13 MP and 21 megapixel cameras, respectively. However, older models tend to outperform the night-shot, as they feature a larger f / 1.8 lens aperture than f / 2.0 on the current phone. In selfies, performance should remain the same with the same 5-megapixel sensor.

Hardware

As usual in evolution from year to year, the new smartphone outperforms previous versions in processing and memory. Moto Z2 Force comes with 4 GB RAM and 6 GB. The device also has the Octa-Core processor up to 2.35 GHz ( Snapdragon 835 ), the most powerful of Qualcomm and the same present in the international version of Galaxy S8.

In terms of performance in apps and heavy games, there should be a lot of difference compared to Moto Z Force and Moto Z. The 2016 models came with the Snapdragon 820 quad-core, two generations behind the 835 - among them there is Snapdragon 821, the same present on the LG G6.

There is no exact confirmation yet about the amount of internal memory present in the Force Z2, but the storage should be in 64 GB or 128 GB to save photos, videos and install many apps from the Google Play Store. There is also microSD card slot for expansion up to 2TB, although there are no memory cards of this size yet.

The battery is a point that draws negative attention on the hardware. With 2,730 mAh of capacity, it is much smaller than the 3,500 mAh present in Moto Z Force. Compared with the Moto Z, there has been a discrete improvement of 130 mAh, but the manufacturer ensures that the more sophisticated components guarantee a full day of use - something that only the complete review can answer in the future.

Availability

The release date of the Moto Z2 Force in the US is scheduled on August 10, for $ 700. The price is considered high considering rivals like the iPhone 7 and the long-awaited Galaxy Note 8, which can be sold at similar levels.
