In NBA 2K17, you can choose an archetype when creating your player. Some of the archetypes appear as if your star could only make one or two things on the field very well. But 2K has created with the many training possibilities that you can still make even a 99 overall player. Therefore, the archetypes at first are a categorization which does describe your style of play, but does not set forever. It is different here with the badges that can bring you to the highest (gold) level. Only the special badge of a specific archetype can reach the maximum. Otherwise, you might stay the Silver Level.
Altogether there are 11 different archetypes. The Point and shooting guard often share the same archetypes, and do power forward and center. The small forward are most archetypes to choose from and also he can be the only one of a point forward.
Lockdown Defender - Set the offensive opponents cold
Achievement: Defense Stoppers, Block Evaders, Ball Hunter, Charge Card
Available players: Point Guard, Shooting Guard, Small Forward, Power Forward.
