Mortal Shell 2 has 8 main weapons and 8 sidearms, giving you 16 pieces of equipment to track down across Fainweald and the Ruins of Mammon. This Mortal Shell 2 weapon locations guide shows you how to get every weapon and sidearm, including the keys, dungeon routes, bosses, puzzles, and encounters required to claim them.
Some weapons are obtained automatically, while others are hidden behind keys, dungeon puzzles, minibosses, or major boss encounters. If you're trying to complete your arsenal, this guide covers every weapon and sidearm location, what you need to unlock each one, the important route details, and the encounters you need to clear.
There are also two separate collection achievements to keep in mind: Lord of War requires all eight main weapons, while Guns, Lots of Guns requires all eight sidearms.

How Weapon Locations Work
Not every weapon in Mortal Shell 2 is obtained in the same way.
You will encounter several different acquisition methods:
- Automatic rewards during progression
- Dungeon pickups
- Key-locked rooms
- Puzzle rewards
- Miniboss rewards
- Boss rewards
This matters because simply reaching the correct region isn't always enough. Some weapons require you to find a key, activate environmental mechanisms, or defeat a particular enemy before the weapon becomes available.
For difficult locations, I've included the important prerequisite and route information rather than just naming the dungeon.
All 8 Weapon Locations
1. The Iconoclast
Location: Prologue
Acquisition: Automatic
The Iconoclast is your first major weapon and is obtained naturally during the opening progression.
You don't need to hunt for a hidden chest or defeat an optional boss to obtain it.
The same early progression also introduces the Naylshotte sidearm and the Untarnished Seal, making this one of the most important equipment milestones in the opening section.
Quick answer
How to get the Iconoclast: Continue through the prologue and complete the required early progression.
2. Axe & Dagger
Location: Shrine of Trials, Fainweald
Requirement: Chapel Key
Acquisition: Dungeon puzzle + Armored Knight
The Axe & Dagger is one of the first weapons you can deliberately seek out.
The important thing is that reaching the Shrine of Trials isn't enough. You need the Chapel Key before you can properly access the weapon route. Current route guides also identify several puzzle sections and an Armored Knight encounter between the entrance and the weapon.
How to get Axe & Dagger
- Find the Chapel Key.
- Return to the Shrine of Trials.
- Enter the weapon route.
- Work through the dungeon puzzles.
- Progress through the pillar/pressure-plate section.
- Defeat the Armored Knight.
- Claim the Axe & Dagger.
Stuck?
If you've reached the Shrine of Trials but can't open the route to the weapon, check that you have the Chapel Key first.
This is one of the weapons where knowing the prerequisite can save you a lot of unnecessary backtracking.
3. Veteran's Battle Axe
Location: King's Crypt, Blackridge Cliffs
Acquisition: Dungeon pickup
The Veteran's Battle Axe is found inside the King's Crypt in the Blackridge Cliffs area of Fainweald. Current guides place the dungeon route around the Blackridge Pass/Shattered Beacon area.
How to get the Veteran's Battle Axe
- Reach the Blackridge area.
- Find the route toward the King's Crypt.
- Enter the dungeon.
- Progress through the cavern.
- Reach the end of the crypt.
- Open the sarcophagus to obtain the weapon.
Unlike several later weapons, this isn't primarily a boss-reward hunt.
4. Great Martyr's Blade
Location: Martyr's Prison, Gloomshade Grove
Acquisition: Dungeon progression
The Great Martyr's Blade is located inside Martyr's Prison, within the Citadel of Penance area of Gloomshade Grove.
How to get Great Martyr's Blade
- Reach Gloomshade Grove.
- Enter the Citadel of Penance area.
- Follow the route toward Martyr's Prison.
- Progress through the prison.
- Use the dungeon's progression mechanics to reach the deeper sections.
- Claim the Great Martyr's Blade.
Important prerequisite
Current route information points to the Bloodcursed Lithopod as an important part of opening the Citadel route. If the area appears blocked, make sure you've dealt with the required enemy rather than repeatedly searching for another entrance.
5. Obsidian Hammer
Location: Obsidianite Mines, Ruins of Mammon
Boss: Prophet of Profane Infinites
Acquisition: Boss reward
The Obsidian Hammer is one of the weapons that requires a more substantial trip into the Ruins of Mammon.
The weapon is found in the Obsidianite Mines, with the Prophet of Profane Infinites guarding the reward.
Route from Outskirts of Mammon
- Start near the Outskirts of Mammon.
- Head toward the quarry.
- Find the flooded pit.
- Carefully descend through the area.
- Continue into the Obsidianite Mines.
- Follow the mine deeper into the dungeon.
- Defeat the Prophet of Profane Infinites.
- Claim the Obsidian Hammer.
Another route
The current coverage also identifies an approach from the Gate of Mammon, using the collapsed mine and elevator route toward the lower sections.
Don't leave early
Reaching the mine isn't the end of the weapon hunt. The Prophet of Profane Infinites is the important encounter that completes the acquisition.
6. Axatana
Location: Forgotten Tower / City area, Ruins of Mammon
Requirement: Dagger Sester encounter
Acquisition: Dungeon/traversal route
The Axatana has one of the more complicated routes in the game, so simply telling players "Forgotten Tower" isn't enough.
How to get Axatana
- Start from the Castigator's Keep area.
- Progress toward the City route.
- Reach the Rollerball courtyard.
- Drop toward the lower ledge.
- Use the jump gate.
- Continue through the Forgotten Tower route.
- Activate the required mechanism.
- Enter the weapon area.
- Defeat the Dagger Sester.
- Claim the Axatana.
Current coverage confirms the route involves multiple traversal mechanisms, including jump gates and a floor switch, before the weapon becomes accessible.
Axatana location tip
Don't stop at the first Forgotten Tower entrance. The weapon is deeper into the traversal route.
This is one of the locations where a simple map marker can be misleading if you don't know which gate or mechanism opens the final path.
7. Black Needle
Location: Sester's Bastion
Requirement: Twin Sesters + Stray Sester encounters
Acquisition: Dungeon combat reward
The Black Needle is found inside Sester's Bastion, and the route has a distinctive environmental mechanic involving bells.
How to get Black Needle
- Reach Sester's Gate.
- Enter Sester's Bastion.
- Progress through the dungeon.
- Shoot the bells to create the temporary platforms/ledges needed to continue.
- Reach the major arena.
- Defeat the Twin Sesters.
- Continue into the follow-up encounter with the Stray Sester.
- Claim the Black Needle.
Current launch coverage confirms the bell/platform mechanic and the Twin Sesters → Stray Sester sequence.
Can't reach the next platform?
Look for the bells.
If the route appears impossible, you may have missed one of the bells required to materialize the path.
That's a much more common problem here than simply not knowing the dungeon's name.
8. Clockwork Scythe
Location: Chamber of Becoming
Boss: Sariel, the Endless
Acquisition: Major boss reward
The Clockwork Scythe is one of the later weapons and is tied directly to Sariel, the Endless.
How to get Clockwork Scythe
- Reach the Silent Steps area.
- Follow the route toward the Chamber of Becoming.
- Encounter Sariel.
- Continue after the first encounter.
- Enter the deeper section of the Chamber of Becoming.
- Complete the final Sariel encounter.
- Defeat Sariel.
- Claim the Clockwork Scythe.
The important detail is that the first Sariel encounter isn't the end of the weapon's acquisition route. Sariel's progression continues into the Chamber of Becoming.
Bonus reward
The same general progression also connects to Sariel's Shell, while the Caged Hystrix sidearm can be collected in the Chamber of Becoming area.
If you're already here for the Scythe, check the area carefully before leaving.
All 8 Sidearm Locations
Sidearms give Mortal Shell 2 a second equipment category beyond your main weapon. There are eight sidearms, and they are tracked separately from the eight primary weapons.
1. Naylshotte
Location: Prologue
Acquisition: Automatic progression
The Naylshotte is obtained during the early game alongside your initial weapon progression.
You don't need to search for a separate hidden dungeon.
Quick answer
How to get Naylshotte: Continue through the prologue and complete the required early progression.
2. Forgotten Crossbow
Location: Flooded Village / Widow's Overlook route
Requirement: Damp Key
Acquisition: Locked weapon room
The Forgotten Crossbow is one of the more useful early sidearms to track down if you want a ranged option.
The important item is the Damp Key, which opens the locked room containing the Crossbow. Current coverage identifies the key and the locked weapon room as the essential parts of the acquisition.
How to get Forgotten Crossbow
- Reach the Flooded Village area.
- Enter the route beneath Widow's Overlook.
- Find the Damp Key.
- Continue to the locked weapon room.
- Use the Damp Key.
- Collect the Forgotten Crossbow.
Stuck?
Don't keep searching for the Crossbow itself if the room is locked.
Find the Damp Key first.
3. Salvaged Trebuchaxe
Location: Ravaged Hideout
Acquisition: Dungeon route
The Salvaged Trebuchaxe is found inside the Ravaged Hideout.
You'll need to progress through the area and deal with the enemies and access requirements guarding the route.
For completion purposes, add this one to your checklist as soon as you collect it rather than assuming it will automatically count as part of your main weapon collection.
4. Troubadour's Lute
Location: One Legged Wolf Tavern, Fainweald
Acquisition: Environmental route
The Troubadour's Lute is found at the One Legged Wolf Tavern.
The route is more unusual than a standard dungeon pickup because environmental corruption affects access to the area.
Why the Lute is worth checking out
The Lute isn't simply another ranged weapon. Its unusual utility gives it a different role from the more conventional projectile-based sidearms.
If you're already exploring this part of Fainweald, it's worth checking the tavern rather than leaving the sidearm for later.
5. Triarch Repeater
Location: Blackwell Cavern / City
The Triarch Repeater is found in the City area, with current equipment databases placing it in Blackwell Cavern.
How to get it
- Reach the City/Mammon progression.
- Find the route into Blackwell Cavern.
- Explore the cavern.
- Locate the sidearm pickup.
- Collect the Triarch Repeater.
6. Ballistazooka
Location: Sentry's Grave
Enemy: Subjugated Guardian
The Ballistazooka is tied to the Sentry's Grave route and its major enemy encounter.
How to get Ballistazooka
- Reach the Mammon area.
- Find the entrance to Sentry's Grave.
- Progress through the dungeon.
- Defeat the Subjugated Guardian.
- Collect the Ballistazooka reward.
This is another sidearm where the acquisition is tied to a specific encounter rather than simply sitting in an obvious overworld chest.
7. Cursed Child
Location: Revered Beacon
The Cursed Child is found around the Revered Beacon dungeon.
The route contains an environmental hazard that can make the acquisition more difficult than it initially appears.
Tip
Pay attention to the environmental damage and use available cover rather than trying to brute-force the route.
Once you've dealt with the dungeon's central obstacle, continue searching the area for the sidearm instead of assuming the objective is finished.
8. Caged Hystrix
Location: Chamber of Becoming
Acquisition: Sariel progression
The Caged Hystrix is another reason not to rush out of the Chamber of Becoming after obtaining the Clockwork Scythe.
The sidearm is tied to the same broader Sariel progression that leads to the Clockwork Scythe.
Best approach
If you're already completing the Sariel encounter for the Scythe:
Search the Chamber of Becoming before leaving.
That can save you another trip through the area.
Which Weapons Should You Get Early?
You don't need to collect all eight weapons before deciding what you want to build around.
For a first playthrough, prioritize weapons according to the combat style you enjoy.
Want a weapon immediately? The Iconoclast is your natural starting option.
Want an early alternative? Axe & Dagger is one of the first deliberate weapon hunts worth making.
Want a heavier weapon? The Veteran's Battle Axe provides another early option through the King's Crypt.
Want to experiment with more advanced weapons? The Great Martyr's Blade, Obsidian Hammer, Axatana, Black Needle, and Clockwork Scythe become increasingly tied to deeper exploration and tougher encounters.
Current coverage also shows that players are already treating weapon choice as a separate build question, so this article should focus on where to obtain weapons, while detailed rankings are better handled separately.
Which Sidearms Should You Get Early?
If you're looking to expand your combat options, prioritize sidearms that are convenient to obtain rather than waiting until the late game.
Early-game priority
- Naylshotte — automatic early progression
- Forgotten Crossbow — worth seeking once you have the Damp Key
- Salvaged Trebuchaxe — useful to pick up while exploring Fainweald
- Troubadour's Lute — worthwhile if you want a more unusual utility option
The remaining sidearms become increasingly tied to the Ruins of Mammon and its deeper dungeons.
Can You Miss Weapons or Sidearms?
The important distinction is between missable and progression-locked.
A weapon may be unavailable because you haven't:
- reached the correct region
- found a required key
- completed a dungeon
- activated a mechanism
- defeated a miniboss
- defeated a major boss
That doesn't mean you've permanently lost it.
For completion-focused players, the safest approach is to keep a checklist and revisit locations after unlocking the required progression.
The game has dedicated collection achievements for both categories:
- Lord of War — unlock all weapons
- Guns, Lots of Guns — unlock all sidearms
Weapon & Sidearm Upgrade Tips
Don't spread your upgrade resources across every weapon immediately.
Try a weapon, decide whether its moveset fits your Shell and combat style, and then invest more heavily once you're confident.
The Tarforge is central to equipment progression, while the Obsidian Lathe is used for sidearm enhancement. Current coverage specifically identifies the Lathe as the sidearm upgrade component.
For Tarstone-specific progression, see our separate:
Mortal Shell 2 Tarstones Guide: Locations, Upgrades, Farming & Best Builds
That guide is better suited to the details of Tarstone selection, XP and build customization, so you don't need to repeat that entire system here.
Lord of War & Guns, Lots of Guns
If you're working toward full completion, keep the two collections separate.

Final Weapon Checklist
If you're using this page while playing, the fastest way to approach the collection is:
Early game: Iconoclast → Axe & Dagger → Veteran's Battle Axe → Great Martyr's Blade
Mammon progression: Obsidian Hammer → Axatana → Black Needle → Clockwork Scythe
Sidearms: Pick up Naylshotte early, then collect the Fainweald sidearms before systematically clearing the Mammon sidearms.
The most important thing is not to treat the dungeon name as the entire answer. For the harder weapons, remember the actual blocker: the Chapel Key for Axe & Dagger, the Prophet for Obsidian Hammer, the traversal mechanisms for Axatana, the bells and Sester encounters for Black Needle, and Sariel's full encounter chain for Clockwork Scythe. Current launch coverage consistently identifies those as the meaningful acquisition steps.
