Tom Petty is a real rock ‘n’ roller and a talented songwriter. He truly master the craft of writing a song and recording it with a group, a group of people you hang with and make music with. When his previous group Mudcrutch split after signing with Shelter Records in the early seventies, Petty was recording his first album with session musicians in Hollywood but determined to go home and check on his old friends, guitarist Mike Campbell and keyboardist Benmont Tench together with Stan Lynch on drums and Ron Blair on bass. He discovered the huge potential, snagged em, brought em in and cut the first Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers (TP&HB) record released in '76. Since then, they have matured as band, and you have to consider that they have a catalog that spans nearly four-decade. That period covers considerable amount of influences and styles that shows the depth and range of this group.
