Is the Samsung A52 Worth Buying?

When Samsung said their latest flagships won't come with a charger inside the box they also mentioned their plan of slowly phasing out the charger from their future Galaxy products as well a lot of people thought their popular mid-range devices the Galaxy A52 and A72 might get the same treatment but today, we have multiple hands-on images of the Galaxy A52 which says otherwise as you can see from the following image, the Galaxy A52 will have a charger inside the box.

Anyway, as you can see just like the Galaxy S21 lineup, the Galaxy A52 has a matte finish. Even the camera module is black which to be honest looks good.

Now, you may think the back is made from glass which isn't the case. It's glass deck as Samsung would like to call it a mixture of glass and plastic but in reality it feels like plastic in hand. There's absolutely no changes up front compared to its predecessor. The bezel size as well as the camera cutout is identical to last year's model. It seems this unit is from the Middle East, and a silicon case is included for the market. Not really sure if other markets will get it too.

It also confirms water resistance on this phone, it's IP67, which means it can be dropped into a body of water up to a meter deep for half an hour. While IP68 found on flagship phones guarantees protection in water up to 1.5m for the same period of time both are resistant to dust.

Anyway, the highlighting feature of the Galaxy A52 is the 120 Hz refresh rate to be clear the 120 Hz is only for the 5G variant. While the 4G A52 will get a 90 Hz full HD+ display.

Another highlighting feature is the OIS. Ever since 2016 this is the first Galaxy, a series to get Optical Image Stabilization. The camera specifications are: 64 megapixel main camera with OIS, 12 megapixel ultra wide and 5 megapixel macro and depth, each there's also a 32 megapixel camera up front. Interestingly, the Galaxy A72's camera specifications will vary a bit instead of a useless depth camera. It will have a 3x optical zoom camera. So the A72's camera system is much more versatile and is flagship great.

As far as the versatility goes as you can see apart from the battery screen size and of course the camera, there's not much difference between the 4C variants of the A52 and A72. It looks like there may not be a 5G version of the A72 after all.

So if a 120hz display and a faster snapdragon 750G processor is a priority then you should go for the 5G version of the Galaxy A52.

Thankfully, Samsung is not increasing the prices. Galaxy A52 is expected to launch for 369 EUR in Europe. The same as the Galaxy A51 did back in late 2019.

Samsung will launch the handset Galaxy A51 on March 26th.
