- Have the Pal available/summoned as required by the Pal interaction.
- Use the Kinship Peach with the appropriate Pal.
- The Peach is consumed as part of the upgrade.
- You receive the corresponding Trusty Pal.
The actual crafting data lists the Trusty variants as recipes made by hand using the Pal and its corresponding Peach.
Does the Pal need to be summoned? Current launch-era coverage describes using the Peach while the Pal is summoned, but the underlying recipe is recorded as a By Hand crafting transformation. For practical purposes, make sure the correct Pal is active and available before attempting the upgrade rather than treating the Peach like a normal consumable item.
Is Kinship Peach consumed? Yes. The Peach is an ingredient in the crafting process that produces the Trusty Pal, so you don't retain the same Peach after upgrading the Pal.

What changes? Normal Cattiva has 11 summon damage. Trusty Cattiva has 22 summon damage, effectively doubling its listed summon damage. Foxparks → Trusty Foxparks
Foxparks is the second standard Kinship Peach target.

What changes? This is arguably the more obvious combat-focused Kinship Peach upgrade. Normal Foxparks has 20 summon damage. Trusty Foxparks has 40 summon damage. Its tooltip also says: "Its trust empowers it, and it learned 'Spirit Fire'!" That makes Trusty Foxparks more than a simple damage-number upgrade. It gains a new ability while retaining its existing Huggy Fire functionality.
Trusty Foxparks and Huggy Fire: The 1.4.5.7 patch also changed Foxparks' Huggy Fire separately. Its Huggy Fire damage was increased from 75% of the item's damage to 100%, while its armor penetration was removed. These are 1.4.5.7 balance changes to Foxparks, not effects that should automatically be attributed to Kinship Peach. That distinction matters if you're comparing normal and Trusty Foxparks.
Kinship Peach vs Little Kinship Peach
This is the easiest part of the system to confuse.
Kinship Peach and Little Kinship Peach are separate crafting items. They also use different base ingredients and target different Pals.

Why this matters: If you're trying to upgrade Digtoise or Chillet, don't spend a Life Fruit crafting the standard Kinship Peach. You need Little Kinship Peach instead.
Little Kinship Peach Recipe
The Little Kinship Peach recipe is:
The important detail is Any Fruit. You don't need to spend another Life Fruit on this version. The recipe accepts a normal fruit from Terraria's fruit category. This makes Little Kinship Peach considerably less demanding in terms of permanent-health opportunity cost.
Digtoise → Trusty Digtoise
Digtoise uses Little Kinship Peach, not the standard Kinship Peach.
The upgrade is: Digtoise + Little Kinship Peach → Trusty Digtoise
The most important benefit is extremely practical: Trusty Digtoise matches your pickaxe power. The official wiki specifically states that the upgrade makes Digtoise match the player's pickaxe power. That makes Trusty Digtoise particularly interesting for players who use the Pal for mining.

The major benefit is movement speed. Trusty Chillet's top running speed is 46 mph, compared with the lower speed of the normal 1.4.5.7 version. The Trusty tooltip also describes the upgrade as increasing its speed. This makes Trusty Chillet particularly attractive if you use the Pal as a mount and care about fast movement.
Chillet Ignis → Trusty Chillet Ignis
Chillet Ignis has its own Trusty version.

Like Trusty Chillet, the Trusty version raises the mount's top running speed to 46 mph. So players using either Chillet variant can benefit from the same basic Little Kinship Peach upgrade path.
How Many Kinship Peaches Should You Craft?
This is where the Life Fruit cost becomes important.
A standard Kinship Peach consumes: 1 Life Fruit + 12 Soul of Light + 12 Soul of Night
Life Fruit normally gives the player 5 permanent maximum health, up to the standard 500-health cap. That means every standard Kinship Peach represents a real progression tradeoff if you haven't already reached your maximum health.
For the standard Kinship Peach: There are currently two confirmed upgrade targets: Cattiva and Foxparks. So if you want both Trusty variants, you can plan around two standard Kinship Peaches.
For Little Kinship Peach: The base ingredient is Any Fruit, so you don't have the same Life Fruit opportunity cost. Its confirmed targets are: Digtoise, Chillet, and Chillet Ignis.
My recommendation: Don't mass-craft Kinship Peaches immediately. First decide which Pal you actually intend to use. If you're still increasing your maximum health, Life Fruit can have a more direct progression benefit. If you've already reached the health cap—or specifically want a Trusty Pal—then spending Life Fruit on Kinship Peach becomes much easier to justify.
Other Cattiva and Foxparks Changes in 1.4.5.7
It's important not to attribute every Pal change in 1.4.5.7 to Kinship Peach.
Cattiva and Foxparks received separate balance and usability changes in the same update.
Cattiva: 1.4.5.7 also changed Cattiva by: Increasing damage from 9 to 11, Increasing the invincibility-frame interval between attacks from 8 to 9 ticks, Allowing it to jump using a Cloud in a Bottle, Preventing it from sitting on the player's shoulder while the player is rotating, Reducing Distressed Cattiva's damage taken to 5 from all hits, and Adding the Trusty upgrade through Kinship Peach. The first four are normal Cattiva changes and should not be described as benefits granted by the Peach.
Foxparks: Foxparks also received several separate changes: Distressed Foxparks now takes 5 damage from all hits, Huggy Fire damage increased from 75% to 100%, Huggy Fire lost its armor penetration, Foxparks can now be upgraded into Trusty Foxparks with Kinship Peach, and the Distressed Pal event became more common and guarantees the Pal the player has yet to obtain. Again, these are patch changes surrounding the Pal, not all direct effects of empowerment.
Is Kinship Peach Worth Crafting?
For the right Pal, yes. But the answer depends on what you want from the upgrade.
