Quick Answer
To open the Illager Gate in Singer's Meadow, destroy the three illager banners at the guardposts around the area. Once all three are destroyed, return to the gate. The gate then opens automatically, allowing you to continue toward the Sculk Monstrosity.
You do not need a key, colored rune, or manual lever to open this gate.
How to Open the Illager Gate
The Illager Gate appears during A Monstrosity in the Meadow, after you have progressed through the musical-gate section of Singer's Meadow.
When you reach the gate, it blocks the narrow pass leading toward Humbler Huskland.
Unlike the musical gates earlier in the Sift, this gate does not require a Tuner to open it. Instead, the game gives you a separate objective involving the illager guardposts surrounding the area.
Destroy the Three Illager Banners
Approaching the closed gate changes the quest objective to:
Take down the illager banners 0/3
The game explains that destroying the banners at the illager guardposts will force the illagers to open the gate so they can send out reinforcements.
Three banner locations are marked around the surrounding area.
Follow the yellow objective path and use the minimap markers to locate each guardpost.
Destroy each banner until the objective reaches:
Take down the illager banners 3/3
You do not need to find a special item or activate a mechanism at the gate itself. The three banner objectives are what trigger the next stage of the gate sequence.
If you're working through other side objectives in the same region, our guide to A Friend Till The End: How to Find the Soul Block and Destroy the Machines covers another objective in this area.
Return to the Illager Gate
After destroying all three banners, the objective changes to:
Return to the illager gate
Go back to the large iron gate blocking the pass.
There is no interaction prompt that you need to use on the gate. Once you return after completing the banner objective, the bars retract automatically into the ground.
The passage is then open.
Why the Gate Was Closed
The game explains that destroying the guardpost banners forces the illagers to open the gate so they can send reinforcements.
That's why searching for a key, lever, or musical-gate solution won't open this particular gate.
The required solution is to complete the three-banner objective.
What Happens After the Gate Opens
The opened passage leads into the area beyond Singer's Meadow.
Crossing through the gate triggers the Sculk Monstrosity boss encounter, with the objective changing to:
Defeat the Sculk Monstrosity
The regional modifier also changes to ENDURE during this section.
Defeating the Sculk Monstrosity completes A Monstrosity in the Meadow and advances the Sift's story into the next stage.
What Quest Comes After the Gate
The Illager Gate is part of A Monstrosity in the Meadow.
After defeating the Sculk Monstrosity, the progression continues into Wrath of the Sculkers in Humbler Huskland.
The next quest involves captured Tuners, musical gates, ichor cores and the route toward Lullaby Hills.
The progression is:
Singer's Meadow → Illager Gate → Sculk Monstrosity → Humbler Huskland
If you're stuck at the closed gate, the important step is to leave the gate area and destroy the three illager banners marked around the surrounding meadow. Once all three are destroyed, return to the gate and it will open automatically.
