Updated September 22, 2026

Infographic guide for Warcraft 3 Forsaken Kingdom showing all four Stranded rescues, quest progression (0/4 to 4/4), and unit unlocks including the Apothecary, Meat Wagon, Abomination, and Banshee.

Stranded is an optional objective in Warcraft 3 Forsaken Kingdom Act III: War of the Damned. Rescuing all four stranded groups expands your available army options, unlocking new units such as the Apothecary, Meat Wagon, Abomination, and eventually the Banshee.

The objective starts at 0/4 Rescued and progresses as you find each stranded group throughout the early Naxxramas area. The locations are spread through different ruined sections, and several are easy to miss while following the main path.

If you're playing through the entire mission, the Warcraft 3 Forsaken Kingdom Naxxramas Walkthrough covers the main objectives, explosive locations, puzzles, and final encounters.

Quick Answer: All 4 Stranded Rescues

If you're looking for the four rescues, use the environmental landmarks below rather than relying only on the minimap. The locations are spread through different ruined sections, and several are easy to miss while following the main path.

Rescue Main Landmark Progress / Result
1 Ruined courtyard, stone arches and fallen pillars Captain Bandarian rescued; Apothecary becomes available
2 Ruined stone courtyard and barricades Meat Wagon becomes available
3 Rune of Essence and stone stairs Abomination becomes available
4 Stone-walled path, lit building and wooden fencing Stranded completed; Banshee production becomes available

The important thing to remember is that the quest is more than a simple optional rescue counter. Completing the sequence gives you additional unit-production options that can strengthen your army for the remainder of the mission.

What Is the Stranded Quest?

Stranded is an optional objective in Forsaken Kingdom Act III: War of the Damned.

The objective is simple:

Rescue all 4 stranded forces.

The quest starts at 0/4 Rescued and progresses as you find the stranded groups throughout the early Naxxramas area.

Completing the objective is useful because the rescues expand your available army options. New unit notifications appear as you progress, including the Apothecary, Meat Wagon and Abomination, while completing all four rescues makes Banshee production available.

If you are playing through the entire mission, our Warcraft 3 Forsaken Kingdom Naxxramas walkthrough covers the main objectives, explosive locations, puzzles and final encounters.

All 4 Stranded Rescues

The four rescues can be identified by the Stranded counter on the quest tracker.

You will progress through:

0/4 → 1/4 → 2/4 → 3/4 → 4/4

Here is what to look for at each stage.

Rescue 1: Captain Bandarian

The first rescue takes place around a paved courtyard or pathway surrounded by damaged stone structures.

Look for:

  • Fallen stone pillars
  • Ruined stone arches
  • Damaged architectural structures
  • Nearby buildings with gabled roofs
  • Paved paths and open stone terrain

This section sits toward the upper or northern portion of the visible area.

When you reach the stranded forces, Captain Bandarian joins the fight.

The quest counter changes from:

0/4 Rescued → 1/4 Rescued

A Deathguard also acknowledges Bandarian's arrival.

Apothecary Unlock

After the first rescue, the game announces a new unit:

Apothecary — Can now be trained from the Temple of the Damned.

This makes the first rescue particularly useful if you want to expand your available support options before pushing farther into Naxxramas.

Rescue 2: Meat Wagon Unlock

The second group is found around another ruined stone courtyard and pathway area.

Useful landmarks include:

  • Stone pathways
  • Ruined walls
  • Defensive barricades
  • Open areas around the damaged structures
  • Enemy forces around the approach

The quest also provides a useful hint:

Additional troops are stranded behind enemy lines.

Once the group is rescued, the counter advances to:

2/4 Rescued

Meat Wagon Unlock

A new unit notification appears after this stage:

Meat Wagon — Can now be trained from the Slaughterhouse.

If you are building up your army before the harder sections of the mission, check the Slaughterhouse after the rescue to make use of the newly available unit.

Rescue 3: Abomination Unlock

The third rescue has one of the clearest environmental landmarks.

Look for a glowing Rune of Essence beside:

  • Stone stairways
  • A raised section of the fortification
  • Stone pathways leading through the area
  • A higher section of the surrounding terrain

The rescue advances the objective to:

3/4 Rescued

Abomination Unlock

After this rescue, the game announces:

Abomination — Can now be trained from the Slaughterhouse.

This is another reason to complete the optional objective before moving too far into the mission. The rescue doesn't simply increase the quest counter; it also expands the units available to your army.

Rescue 4: Complete Stranded

The final rescue takes place around a stone-walled pathway with several useful visual landmarks.

Look for:

  • A lit building
  • Wooden fencing
  • Stone walls
  • A narrow pathway or corner
  • Terrain near the cliff edges

The minimap also points toward the northern section of the area, but the surrounding structures are more useful for identifying the actual location.

After rescuing the final group, the objective reaches:

4/4 Rescued

The Stranded quest is then completed.

Banshee Production Becomes Available

With the Stranded objective completed, Banshee production becomes available from the Temple of the Damned.

A talent-point notification also appears at this stage.

Because the Banshee unlock is tied to completion of the Stranded objective, make sure the quest tracker actually reaches 4/4 before leaving the area.

What Does Each Stranded Rescue Unlock?

The progression can be summarized as follows:

Stranded Rescue Tips

Watch the Quest Counter

The easiest way to confirm that a rescue registered is the quest counter.

Keep an eye on:

0/4 → 1/4 → 2/4 → 3/4 → 4/4

If the number doesn't change, you haven't completed the rescue yet.

Use Landmarks Instead of Only the Minimap

The surrounding architecture is often more useful than trying to interpret the minimap.

Pay particular attention to:

  • Ruined arches
  • Fallen pillars
  • Stone stairways
  • The glowing Rune of Essence
  • Lit buildings
  • Wooden fencing

Check Your Production Buildings

After a rescue, look for the New Unit Acquired notification and check the appropriate production building.

The major unlocks include:

  • Apothecary: Temple of the Damned
  • Meat Wagon: Slaughterhouse
  • Abomination: Slaughterhouse
  • Banshee: Temple of the Damned after completing Stranded

Don't Leave Before Reaching 4/4

Because Stranded is optional, it is easy to forget about it while progressing through the main mission.

If you want to complete the objective, verify that the counter reaches 4/4 before moving on.

Is Stranded Required to Finish Naxxramas?

No.

Stranded is an optional quest, so you can continue the main Naxxramas objectives without completing all four rescues.

However, completing it gives you additional unit-production options and strengthens your available army.

For a full mission route, including the main Hold the Line, Skyjack, The Necropolis, explosive objectives, puzzles and final encounters, see the complete Naxxramas walkthrough.
