PS Vita: learn how to configure PSP/ PS One games on new portable console

The PS Vita has the ability to run old PSP and PS One games, which can be purchased online on the PlayStation Store. However, not all users know that it is possible to configure old games to work better and use extra features available on the new portable console.

How to configure PSP games

Step 1: Running a PSP game, hold down the Home button (with the logo of the PlayStation) briefly.

Step 2: Then a menu will appear with options PS Vita and an icon of the game you are running the top side of a Settings button. Click it.


Step 3: In the next menu you will see several options, check out what each one does:

- Bilinear Filtering: a graphic filter to soften the look of the game. You can leave a bit blurry games, then you can turn it off if you want.

- Right Stick: You can assign the right analog stick to perform certain functions such as digital directional or face buttons. This makes it possible to transform old PSP games that used buttons to aim for true FPS with dual analog.

- Camera: Here you choose which camera to the PS Vita wants it to be interpreted as the PSP camera, rear (Rear) or front (Front).

- Color Space (PSP System): How the PSP and PS Vita are very different, including the screen, PSP games can display colors slightly different on Vita. It tries to bring the game more original colors, but this can make them less vibrant.


- Assign Touchscreen: With this option you can map the 4 corners of the PS Vita screen as if they were buttons for quick use.

- Delete Stored PSP Game Content: This will cause all content except for PSP games such as photos or music, is deleted whenever you start a game for PSP.

How to configure PS One games

Step 1: Running a PS One game, hold down the Home button (with the logo of the PlayStation) briefly.

Step 2: Then a menu will appear with options PS Vita and an icon of the game you are running the top side of a Settings button. Click it.

Step 3: In this new menu you will see several options, check out what each one does:

- Switch Discs: This option is for the PS One games that had more than one disk. When the game asks for disc swap, return to this menu and select this option.

- Controller Settings: Here you can configure the buttons on the PS Vita, the touch screen and even the rear touch panel to take on the role of the PS One buttons, including the missing laptop, L2, R2, L3 and R3. You can also switch control between Player 1 and 2, for games like Metal Gear Solid, and switch between Digital and Analog modes for games that support the Dual Shock.

- Memory Card Utility: This option allows you to access the saved game data PS One, but there is usually no reason to tamper with it.

- Other Settings: In this menu you can choose the screen size, according to the original and stretching it to fill the entire screen of the PS Vita. You can also increase the volume of games, if the audio is too low, and adjust the speed of loading, from normal to fast (Fast), despite not work in all games. Finally, there is the Bilinear Filtering option, which like the PSP, smooth the graphics.
