The Civil Wars Confirm Separation

The Civil Wars announced it is separating permanently. The duo, Joy Williams and John Paul White, gained famed earlier this decade with their music that blended soul, folk and other styles of traditional music in the United States.

The two albums the duo sold together almost a million copies in the USA and they also won four Grammy Awards - one for "Safe and Sound" written by Taylor Swift for the soundtrack of the movie "The Hunger Games" (2011).

The Civil Wars was on an indefinite hiatus since late 2012. The separation was announced via Facebook and both said that the decision to put an end to the project was quite difficult.

As a thank Joy and John are providing free download of their cover version of "You Are My Sunshine." The song came out in 2011 b-side of a single released only on vinyl. Williams said he expected the song to be accepted as a symbol of gratitude to all those who supported them all these years. "I'm very grateful and my heart is full," wrote the musician.
