Crimson Desert 2.0 New Game Carryover: What Transfers to a New Save?

Updated August 26, 2026

Crimson Desert Enhanced (Version 2.00.00) adds a new carryover feature that lets players begin a fresh story while bringing selected progression from an existing save. However, it is not a traditional New Game Plus mode where your entire inventory, equipment, mounts, camp, and completed progression follow you.

The important part is knowing what actually transfers before you create the new save.

Crimson Desert 2.0 screenshot comparison showing the new game carryover prompt for Silver and Abyss Links alongside the inventory screen displaying carried currency.

The 2.0 update officially confirms that players can carry over Abyss Links and other in-game currency after completing all main quests. Current player testing indicates that the practical system is much more limited than a full NG+ system: Abyss Links and personal Silver carry over, while weapons, armor and banked/camp currency do not appear to transfer.

If you're considering replaying the campaign to experience the new 2.0 story scenes, here's exactly what you need to know.

Crimson Desert 2.0 Carryover Explained

The Crimson Desert Enhanced 2.0 update introduces a feature that allows players to start a new game while carrying over Abyss Links and other in-game currency from an existing save.

The feature is available after completing all main quests.

This is particularly useful because 2.0 significantly changes the skill system. The update introduces Abyss Links, resets existing skill progression when you first launch the updated game, and refunds resources previously spent on skills, including Abyss Artifacts.

That means returning players can rebuild their characters under the new system before deciding whether to replay the campaign.

For a detailed explanation of that system, see our Crimson Desert 2.0 Skill Reset Guide: Abyss Link, Refunds & Kliff's 8 New Skills

How to Unlock New Game Carryover

You don't get the carryover option immediately after installing 2.0. According to the official patch notes, the feature becomes available after completing all main quests.

In other words:

  • Finish the main story → load your completed save → use the new-game carryover option.

The new game then starts the campaign again rather than placing you back into your completed endgame world.

Important

Don't confuse this with simply selecting New Game. The carryover option is specifically intended to use selected progression from your previous journey.

What Transfers to a New Save?

Here's the most useful quick reference based on the 2.0 patch information and current player testing:

Progression / ItemTransfers?
Abyss Links✅ Yes
Personal Silver✅ Yes
Banked Silver❌ Appears not to
Camp funds❌ Appears not to
Gold bars / banked wealth❌ Appears not to
Weapons❌ No
Armor❌ No
Normal equipment❌ No
Inventory items❌ No
Mounts❌ No
Camp progression❌ No
Knowledge❌ No
Completed quests❌ No
Story progression❌ No
Full skill progression❌ No — use Abyss Links to rebuild skills

The official notes only explicitly promise Abyss Links and other in-game currency rather than a complete inventory or equipment transfer. Community testing has subsequently found that weapons, armor and other normal progression do not carry over.

Important: Currency behavior is worth treating separately because current testing indicates that Silver carried by the character transfers, while Silver stored in the bank/camp does not.

Does Silver Transfer?

Yes — but apparently only the Silver you are carrying.

This is one of the most important details to understand before starting the new save. Current testing indicates that the carryover screen includes the Silver currently held by your character, but does not include Silver sitting in the bank or camp funds.

For example, one player reported seeing a carryover value of roughly 1,980 Silver alongside their Abyss Link total. Another test found that removing Silver from the chest did not immediately change the amount displayed on the new-game screen, showing that the system's save-source behavior may not always be obvious.

So don't assume:

  • "I have 20,000 Silver in my bank, so I'll start the new game with 20,000."

That's not currently supported by testing.

Best approach

Before creating your carryover save:

  • Load your completed save.
  • Check your current Silver.
  • Check your bank and camp funds separately.
  • Make a manual save.
  • Open the carryover/new-game screen.
  • Check the exact amount the game says will transfer.

Use the number shown by the game as the final authority.

Do Gold Bars Transfer?

Don't assume they do. Gold bars and other wealth stored in the bank appear not to be part of the normal carryover pool based on current testing. Players specifically found that banked currency does not appear to transfer in the same way as personal Silver.

This is one reason the carryover system is very different from a traditional NG+.

Before starting

If you have valuable currency stored away, don't rely on the bank balance being transferred. Instead, check the carryover screen and confirm exactly what the game lists.

⬆ Back to Table of Contents

Yes. Abyss Links are the most important progression that carries into the new game. This is directly confirmed by the 2.0 patch notes.

Abyss Links were introduced alongside the redesigned skill-learning system. When one character uses Abyss Artifacts to learn skills, an equivalent number of Abyss Links is granted to the other playable characters. Each character can then use their own Links to develop their skill progression.

That system is particularly useful for a replay because your completed save can generate a substantial pool of Abyss Links before you begin the new journey.

Example

Suppose you invested heavily in Kliff. Under the 2.0 system, those skill investments can generate equivalent Abyss Links for the other playable characters. You can then use those Links to develop Damiane and Oongka without having to find a completely separate supply of Abyss Artifacts for every character. The carryover feature then lets you take those Links into a new game.

Do Skill Points Transfer?

Not as a separate traditional endgame progression system. The important resource for the carryover system is Abyss Links.

The new game does not simply place your fully completed character skill trees into the opening hours of the campaign. Instead, your carried-over Links give you the resources to rebuild and unlock skills again as the new playthrough progresses.

This is why the 2.0 skill reset and carryover systems work together. The official update also allows skill progression to be reset individually for each character, with the Abyss Links spent by that character refunded when their progression is reset.

Do Weapons and Armor Transfer?

No. This is probably the biggest difference between the 2.0 carryover system and a conventional NG+ mode.

Current testing indicates that weapons and armor do not transfer into the new game. Players have specifically reported starting without their previously collected equipment.

That means you should expect to collect equipment again. Your completed save isn't functioning as a giant equipment chest that you can take into the opening chapters.

What this means

If you spent dozens of hours collecting:

  • Rare weapons
  • Upgraded armor
  • Special equipment
  • Unique gear

you should expect to reacquire them during the new journey.

⬆ Back to Table of Contents

Do Mounts Transfer?

No confirmed carryover for mounts. The carryover feature is not designed to bring your complete collection of mounts into the new campaign.

Current community testing focuses on the explicitly transferred resources—Abyss Links and qualifying currency—and reports that normal progression such as equipment does not carry over. Therefore, don't start a new carryover save assuming your existing mounts will be available immediately.

⬆ Back to Table of Contents

Does Inventory Transfer?

No. Your normal inventory should not be treated as a carryover stash. That includes the broader collection of consumables, materials, equipment and other items accumulated during the completed playthrough.

The feature is intentionally selective rather than a full save transfer. This is also why the new game still feels like a fresh campaign even though you have an advantage from your previous character development.

⬆ Back to Table of Contents

Does Camp Progress Transfer?

No. Your completed camp should not be expected to appear fully developed at the beginning of the new journey. Camp progression is tied closely to story and world progression, so the new save requires you to progress through the campaign again.

This is another major reason why the 2.0 feature should not be described as a full New Game Plus.

⬆ Back to Table of Contents

Do Knowledge and Companions Transfer?

They should not be treated as transferred progression. The carryover system is primarily about Abyss Links and selected currency, not your completed world state.

That means you should expect to progress through the story again and reacquire progression that depends on:

  • Story chapters
  • Quest completion
  • Character unlocks
  • Camp development
  • Knowledge progression
  • Equipment acquisition

The 2.0 update does not describe the feature as transferring the entire completed save. Its official wording specifically limits the carryover to Abyss Links and other in-game currency.

⬆ Back to Table of Contents

Is This Really New Game Plus?

Not in the traditional sense. You'll see players call the feature New Game Plus because it lets you start the campaign again with selected progression.

However, Pearl Abyss does not describe it as a traditional full NG+ mode in the official patch notes. The actual wording is a feature that allows players to carry over Abyss Links and other in-game currency from an existing save when starting a new game.

That's a much narrower system.

Traditional NG+ expectation

Players normally expect to keep things such as:

  • Weapons
  • Armor
  • Mounts
  • Inventory
  • Character progression
  • Upgrades
  • Unlocks

Crimson Desert 2.0 carryover

Instead, the current system primarily gives you:

  • Abyss Links
  • Eligible currency
  • A fresh campaign
  • The ability to rebuild your characters with your carried-over skill resource

So the best description is: A new-game carryover system rather than a full New Game Plus mode.

The community reaction reflects this distinction, with players specifically asking for a future system that would preserve equipment and other completed progression.

What to Do Before Starting a Carryover Save

This is the section I would pay the most attention to if you're a returning player.

  1. Load your old save first — Do not immediately create a new game after installing 2.0. The first launch after the update resets your existing skill progression and refunds resources previously used to learn skills, including Abyss Artifacts. You want that process to happen on your completed save.
  2. Rebuild your skill trees — Once the refund happens, you can reorganize your characters using the new 2.0 system. This is especially important for creating your Abyss Link pool. If you skip this step and immediately start a new journey, you may not have the Abyss Link balance you expected. Community testing specifically warns players to load the old save and allow the skill reset before jumping into the carryover game. Source: Reddit
  3. Check your Abyss Links — Before starting the new game, open the skill system and check how many Abyss Links you have available. This is the most important progression you are taking with you.
  4. Check your Silver — Look at the exact amount displayed by the carryover screen. Don't assume your bank balance is included. Current testing indicates that personal Silver is carried over while banked/camp funds are not, although players have reported some confusing behavior around which save state the carryover screen reads.
  5. Make a manual backup save — This is strongly recommended. Players have reported confusion about which existing save the carryover option uses and concerns about maintaining separate playthroughs. If you've invested dozens or hundreds of hours into your original save, don't risk it just to test the new feature. Make a manual save before beginning the new journey.
  6. Don't expect your gear to follow you — If you're starting the carryover game because you want to replay the story, remember: Your equipment collection is not coming with you. Current testing indicates that weapons and armor have to be collected again.

Should You Start a New Save in 2.0?

For most returning players: not immediately.

You don't need to restart the entire game simply to experience the new 2.0 content. The Enhanced update changes the main story and quests across the campaign, adding new cutscenes, dialogue, knowledge, memory fragments and conversations designed to improve the narrative flow.

So if you're already 30, 50 or 100+ hours into the campaign, continuing your existing save is usually the less disruptive choice.

Start a carryover game if:

  • You've already completed the main story.
  • You want to experience the revised story from the beginning.
  • You want to rebuild your characters under the new 2.0 skill system.
  • You don't mind collecting weapons and armor again.
  • You want to use your accumulated Abyss Links during a fresh playthrough.
  • You enjoy replaying long RPG campaigns.

Continue your existing save if:

  • You haven't finished the main story.
  • You have a large collection of rare equipment.
  • You don't want to repeat camp progression.
  • You don't want to reacquire mounts and gear.
  • You're primarily interested in the new story scenes rather than replaying the entire game.

Why the Carryover System Matters After 2.0

The feature makes more sense when viewed alongside the rest of the Enhanced update. 2.0 doesn't simply add a few new skills. It restructures skill progression around Abyss Artifacts and Abyss Links.

Your existing skill progression is reset when you first launch the updated game, with previously spent resources refunded. That allows returning players to rebuild their characters and distribute progression more flexibly.

Then, once the main campaign has been completed, the carryover feature gives those players a reason to replay the story without starting completely from zero.

It's essentially:

  • Completed save → 2.0 skill reset → rebuild characters → accumulate Abyss Links → start fresh campaign → use carried-over Links to rebuild progression

That makes the system particularly attractive for players who want to replay the newly revised story.

Final Verdict

Crimson Desert 2.0's carryover feature is useful, but don't mistake it for a complete NG+ mode. The biggest transferable progression is Abyss Links, while current testing indicates that personal Silver also carries over. Your weapons, armor, normal inventory and other completed-world progression do not come with you.

For returning players, the safest order is:

  • Load your existing save → let 2.0 reset your skills → rebuild your characters → check Abyss Links and transferable currency → make a manual save → start the carryover journey.

And if you haven't finished the campaign yet, there's little reason to restart just because 2.0 arrived. The Enhanced update's new story content is integrated throughout the main questline, so you can continue your existing journey and still experience the updated narrative.
