If you've returned to Bodycam after the massive Locked & Loaded update, you'll notice that the settings and performance options have changed significantly. Version 0.8 added DLSS 4.5, FSR 4, XeSS 3, Frame Generation and improved resolution-scale handling, while the first follow-up patch added DLSS Multi Frame Generation and an in-game Film Grain setting.

The problem is that many settings guides simply tell you to turn everything to Low. That isn't always the best solution. In a tactical shooter where visibility, footsteps, and smooth aiming matter more than flashy visuals, the goal is to find the right balance between FPS, image clarity, audio, and input responsiveness.

This guide explains what to change, why it matters, and which advanced tweaks are actually worth trying.

Then play a full match before changing anything else. If your FPS is stable, you can experiment with Frame Generation and higher graphics settings. If performance is poor, lower the GPU-heavy options one at a time.

Choose the Right Settings for Your PC

You don't need the same Bodycam settings as someone with a completely different GPU.

If you have an NVIDIA RTX GPU

Start with DLSS Quality and establish your baseline FPS and frametime consistency before experimenting with Frame Generation.

If you use an AMD Radeon GPU

Start with FSR Quality. If performance is still too low, reduce demanding graphics settings or resolution scale before moving to a more aggressive upscaling mode.

If you use Intel Arc

Test XeSS Quality first and compare it against the other options your system exposes.

If your PC struggles to maintain 60 FPS

Prioritize stable rendered FPS and frametime consistency before worrying about Frame Generation.

The important point is simple: don't chase the biggest FPS number on the counter if the game feels less responsive or the image becomes harder to read.

Bodycam remains a demanding PC game, and the v0.8 update was accompanied by changes to presets, resolution scaling, upscaling and performance behavior.

Best Bodycam Settings for FPS

Start with your base FPS

Don't enable Frame Generation immediately.

Instead:

  • Set your resolution to native.
  • Choose DLSS/FSR/XeSS Quality.
  • Disable V-Sync.
  • Disable Motion Blur.
  • Play one full match.
  • Check your average FPS and how consistent the game feels.

Only after establishing your baseline should you begin experimenting with Frame Generation or lower graphics settings.

A repeatable test is more useful than changing ten settings at once.

Don't assume that Low is automatically the fastest or best-looking competitive option on your particular PC. Start with Medium or High, check your FPS and frametimes, then lower the settings that are actually limiting performance.

Resolution scale

Leave this at 100% initially.

If your GPU is consistently the bottleneck, test a lower resolution scale before making several other changes at once. Compare image clarity and FPS at the same location so you can see whether the performance gain is actually worth the visual trade-off.

V-Sync

For competitive multiplayer:

Off is the recommended starting point.

Consider enabling it only if screen tearing is more distracting than the additional latency you experience.

If your game and display setup supports a suitable frame-rate cap, test that separately rather than assuming V-Sync is required.

DLSS 4.5 vs FSR 4 vs XeSS 3

Locked & Loaded added support for DLSS 4.5, FSR 4 and XeSS 3. Rather than assuming one upscaler is automatically best, use the upscaler your GPU supports as your first test, then compare image clarity, stability and performance on your own system.

DLSS 4.5 — NVIDIA

Start with Quality. If your GPU still struggles to maintain your target FPS, test a more performance-focused mode and compare the image quality before keeping it.

FSR 4 — AMD

Start with Quality and compare the result on your own hardware. If you still need more performance, move down gradually rather than immediately choosing the most aggressive setting.

XeSS 3 — Intel

Start with Quality and compare it against the other options available on your system.

Which one should you choose?

There is no reason to switch upscalers simply because another player's setup looks better. Resolution, GPU load, image quality and your particular hardware can all affect the result.

Quality upscaling is a sensible starting point, while more aggressive modes should be treated as performance tools rather than automatic upgrades.

Should You Use Frame Generation?

This is one of the settings you should test rather than simply switch on because the FPS counter gets bigger.

The September 2026 hotfix added DLSS Multi Frame Generation, expanding the game's available Frame Generation options.

My rule of thumb

Get the game running well without Frame Generation first.

If your underlying FPS is unstable, generated frames won't fix the underlying performance problem. Frame Generation can make motion look smoother, but it doesn't replace the need for a stable rendering baseline.

Start by checking your rendered FPS and frametime consistency. Then enable Frame Generation and compare how the game actually feels while aiming, turning and reacting to enemies.

Turn Frame Generation ON if:

  • Your underlying FPS is already reasonably stable.
  • You're primarily GPU-limited.
  • You have a high-refresh display.
  • You prefer smoother visual motion and are comfortable with the change in input feel.

Leave it OFF if:

  • Your underlying FPS is already low.
  • You're extremely sensitive to input latency.
  • Your frametimes are inconsistent.
  • You notice visual artifacts during fast movement.
  • The game feels less responsive after enabling it.

Higher displayed FPS does not automatically mean lower input latency. Always judge how the game feels during aiming and quick reactions—not just what the FPS counter says.

This is particularly important in Bodycam because it is a competitive shooter where responsiveness matters.

Best Bodycam Settings for Competitive Visibility

Visibility wins fights.

These settings are intended to improve target clarity without unnecessarily flattening the game's visuals.

Film Grain

The September hotfix added a proper Film Grain setting, so you no longer need an Engine.ini edit just to disable it.

For competitive play, Off is a sensible starting point because it removes an additional visual layer from the image.

Motion Blur

Turn it Off if you prefer a clearer image while turning and tracking targets.

This doesn't magically increase FPS. The main benefit is that movement can appear easier to read.

Depth of Field

Reducing DOF can improve perceived clarity when scanning corridors and outdoor sightlines.

This is particularly worth testing on Trenches, where you can move between enclosed spaces and longer sightlines.

Don't sacrifice everything for visibility

A completely stripped-down image isn't automatically better.

If lowering graphics settings makes the environment harder to read, creates distracting visual changes or removes too much of the game's visual information, move the setting back up and test again.

The goal is clearer information, not simply the lowest possible graphics quality.

Best Audio Settings for Footsteps

Locked & Loaded substantially rebuilt Bodycam's audio system, including sound propagation, environmental reverb, vertical positioning, footsteps, weapon sounds and other gameplay audio.

Treat these as starting values, not fixed competitive requirements. Your headset, sound card, Windows volume and personal hearing all affect the ideal mix.

Why headphones matter

Bodycam's redesigned audio is intended to provide more useful positional information through environmental propagation, footsteps, gunfire and vertical sound cues.

For competitive play, headphones make it easier to judge:

  • Footstep direction
  • Vertical movement
  • Nearby and distant gunfire
  • Environmental positioning
  • Equipment and drone activity

Avoid pushing the overall volume higher simply to hear footsteps. A comfortable level with enough headroom is usually more useful than an excessively loud mix.

NVIDIA & Windows Settings

These aren't mandatory, but they're worth checking.

Windows Graphics

Go to:

Settings → System → Display → Graphics

If your PC has both integrated and dedicated graphics, assign Bodycam to the High Performance GPU.

This helps Windows select the intended graphics processor. It does not magically increase the performance of the GPU itself.

NVIDIA Low Latency Mode

If you're using an NVIDIA GPU, you can test Low Latency Mode on a per-game basis.

Treat it as a latency experiment rather than an FPS setting.

Don't expect enabling Ultra to automatically produce higher frame rates. Compare the game's responsiveness and frametime behavior before keeping the change.

Best Settings for Low-End PCs

If you're struggling to maintain 60 FPS, don't immediately change every option to Low.

Best Settings for High-End PCs

If you're running a high-end system with enough GPU headroom, start with:

  • Native resolution
  • High graphics preset
  • DLSS Quality on supported RTX hardware
  • FSR Quality on supported Radeon hardware
  • Motion Blur Off
  • Film Grain Off
  • Frame Generation: Optional

If your system already delivers the refresh rate you want without Frame Generation, there is no requirement to enable it.

The goal is to preserve image quality while maintaining a stable refresh rate.

These are advanced changes—not required.

Before editing configuration files, make a backup of the original file. If a tweak causes unexpected behavior after an update, restore the default configuration and test again.

I do NOT recommend blindly copying these

Avoid treating the following as guaranteed FPS boosts:

  • -high
  • -USEALLAVAILABLECORES
  • Ultimate Performance power plan
  • Disable Fullscreen Optimizations

These tweaks are frequently recommended in PC optimization videos, but their benefits can vary substantially between systems. They should not be presented as universal Bodycam performance fixes.

If your game already runs well, don't change several Windows, Steam and Engine.ini settings just because a video promises a large FPS increase.

Make one change, test it, and keep it only if your own system actually benefits.

How to Test Your Settings Properly

A useful test takes only a few minutes.

  • Load the same map.
  • Use the same resolution.
  • Test both indoor and outdoor areas.
  • Aim through magnified optics.
  • Check average FPS.
  • Pay attention to frametime consistency.
  • Change one setting at a time.
  • Repeat the same test.

Don't judge a setting solely by the biggest FPS number.

Also check:

  • Does aiming still feel responsive?
  • Is the image clear at distance?
  • Do scopes remain readable?
  • Are there distracting artifacts?
  • Does performance remain stable during combat?

Changing multiple settings at once makes it impossible to know which option actually helped.

Troubleshooting

Bodycam looks blurry

Try:

  • Quality upscaling.
  • Film Grain Off.
  • Motion Blur Off.
  • Lower Depth of Field where available.
  • Checking your resolution scale.
  • Comparing the upscaler against another supported option.

Don't immediately assume that lower graphics settings will make the image clearer.

FPS is high but aiming feels sluggish

Try:

  • Frame Generation Off.
  • V-Sync Off.
  • NVIDIA Low Latency Mode on RTX hardware.
  • Checking whether your underlying FPS is actually stable.

Remember that generated frames can increase the displayed FPS number without providing the same input response as traditionally rendered frames.

Scopes reduce FPS

The v0.8 update included changes to scope rendering, optimization and visual stability, and the first hotfix included additional scope performance and stability improvements.

Make sure you're running the current build before relying on old scope-performance tweaks.

Game stutters after the update

Try these steps in order:

  1. Update your GPU driver.
  2. Verify the game files through Steam.
  3. Restore advanced Engine.ini changes.
  4. Test with Frame Generation Off.
  5. Return to your baseline settings.
  6. Change one setting at a time.

If the problem appeared immediately after a major update, avoid piling several unrelated optimization tweaks on top of each other. That makes the original problem much harder to diagnose.
