Noor is one of the biggest problems for shield-based attacks in Rainbow Six Siege.

His Horus Lance Launcher is specifically designed to disrupt shield operators. When a Lance attaches to a shield, the attacker cannot simply keep holding the same position indefinitely. The Lance begins producing flames toward the shield operator, forcing them to move the shield aside and remove it.

That removal creates the opening Noor and his teammates are looking for.

But Noor is not an automatic win against every shield player. Montagne, Blitz and Osa each have different ways of dealing with the Horus Lance, and understanding when to remove the Lance—and when to retreat—is the key to surviving the matchup.

This guide explains how to counter Noor when playing each of these operators, when to remove the Horus Lance, how to avoid giving Noor an easy kill, and how to change your shield strategy against him.

How Noor Counters Shield Operators

Noor's Horus Lance Launcher carries five projectiles.

The Lance can attach to shields and then produce flames. Ubisoft specifically designed Noor around disrupting shield-led attacks, forcing the affected operator to briefly move their shield aside to remove the device. That removal creates a vulnerability that Noor or his teammates can exploit.

The important point is that the Lance is not simply a damage-over-time attack. Its real purpose is to force a shield operator into an uncomfortable decision:

  • Stay in position and take the fire.
  • Move away from the position.
  • Turn the shield aside and remove the Lance.
  • Rely on teammates to cover the removal.
  • Abandon the push entirely.

That means the best way to counter Noor is not necessarily to remove the Lance immediately. Instead, you need to ask: "Where will I be exposed when I remove it?"

What Happens When Horus Lance Hits Your Shield?

When Noor successfully attaches a Lance to a shield operator, the flames are directed toward the operator. This is different from firing the Lance at a normal penetrable surface. Against a shield operator, the attacker becomes the target of the fire rather than simply creating a two-sided fire zone.

The Lance therefore turns your shield into a temporary liability.

Ubisoft explains that the affected attacker needs to move their shield aside to remove the Lance, briefly exposing themselves to Noor or other Defenders.

The basic sequence

  • Noor fires → Lance attaches → flames begin → shield operator moves shield → Lance is removed → attacker becomes vulnerable.

Your goal is to break that sequence by controlling when and where the removal happens.

How to Counter Noor as Montagne

Montagne is arguably the most important shield matchup because his entire role revolves around creating space and protecting teammates. Against Noor, Montagne should avoid treating the extended shield as an absolute safe zone.

Don't walk directly into Noor's prepared position

The worst situation is entering a narrow doorway or corridor where Noor already has a clear angle. If the Lance attaches there, Montagne has limited room to retreat before dealing with it.

Instead:

  • Keep distance from likely Noor positions.
  • Avoid committing to narrow chokepoints without teammate support.
  • Use drones and teammates to identify Noor.
  • Force Noor to reveal himself before committing.
  • Keep an escape route available.

The goal is to make Noor choose between firing the Lance from an awkward position or allowing Montagne to continue advancing.

Don't remove the Lance immediately if Noor is watching

This is one of the most important counterplay rules. If Noor has a direct angle on you, immediately moving the shield aside can give him exactly the opening he wants. Instead, look for a safer moment.

For example:

  • Bad timing: Lance attaches → Montagne immediately exposes himself → Noor shoots.
  • Better timing: Lance attaches → Montagne retreats behind cover → teammate pressures Noor → Montagne removes Lance.

The second situation dramatically reduces the risk.

Use Montagne's shield to retreat

Once the Lance is attached, you do not necessarily need to fight Noor immediately. If the position is bad, leave it. The shield still provides protection while you retreat.

This is particularly important when Noor is supported by another Defender. You don't want to remove the Lance while simultaneously exposed to: Noor's primary weapon, A second Defender, Crossfire, Trap utility, Another shield counter.

Montagne's best response to Noor

Think of Noor as a position-denial operator. If he has successfully stopped your advance, you have already lost the immediate exchange. Don't keep standing in the same doorway simply because Montagne's shield normally allows you to do so. Back up, regroup and attack from another direction.

How to Counter Noor as Blitz

Blitz has a different problem. His shield is designed to support aggressive pushes, but Noor punishes predictable close-range shield engagements.

Don't rush Noor blindly

Blitz's speed can make it tempting to immediately close the distance. Against Noor, this can be exactly what the Defender wants. If Noor has the Lance ready, a predictable Blitz charge gives him a clean opportunity to attach the projectile.

Instead, use:

  • Drone information
  • Teammate pressure
  • Alternate entry routes
  • Flash timing
  • Cover

Force Noor to divide his attention before committing to the push.

Use Blitz's mobility before the Lance attaches

Blitz's mobility is valuable because Noor's fire is much easier to deal with when you are not trapped in a confined space. If Noor is holding a doorway, don't automatically challenge that doorway. Rotate. Approach from another angle. Make him move. A Noor player becomes much less comfortable when the attacker refuses to enter the exact choke point he prepared for.

If the Lance attaches, prioritize survival

Once the Lance is attached, Blitz needs to stop thinking about the next kill and start thinking about the next safe position. Move behind cover if possible. Then coordinate the removal. The biggest mistake is allowing Noor to dictate the exact location where you remove the Lance.

Don't give Noor a stationary target

Blitz becomes much easier for Noor to punish when he is: Standing in a doorway, Holding one predictable angle, Waiting for teammates in the open, Trapped against a wall, Fighting alone. Use Blitz's mobility to avoid becoming predictable.

How to Counter Noor as Osa

Osa requires a more careful explanation because the Talon-8 Shield has different behavior depending on whether Osa is holding it or has deployed it. This distinction is important when playing against Noor.

Held Osa shield

When Osa is carrying her Talon-8 Shield, the Horus Lance does not simply behave like it does against every stationary shield interaction. Current gameplay references report that the Lance can ricochet from a held Osa shield rather than attaching normally.

That gives Osa an important option: Keep the shield mobile when the Lance is threatening you. Do not automatically assume Noor can treat a carried Talon-8 Shield exactly like a stationary shield object.

Deployed Osa shield

The situation changes once Osa deploys the Talon-8 Shield. A deployed Osa shield becomes a stationary piece of utility that the Horus Lance can interact with. Ubisoft specifically lists Osa's shields among the devices the Lance can affect.

This means Osa should think carefully before leaving a Talon-8 Shield in an exposed position.

Don't treat a deployed Osa shield as permanent cover

One of the biggest mistakes is assuming: "My Talon shield is here, so this angle is safe." Against Noor, that can become a liability. If the Lance reaches the shield, Noor can turn your carefully constructed position into a temporary hazard.

Use the shield to create temporary advantages rather than becoming completely dependent on one stationary position.

When Should You Remove the Horus Lance?

This is the central question for all shield operators. There is no universal answer. The correct decision depends on Noor's position, your cover, your teammates and your escape route.

Remove it when:

  • Noor has lost line of sight.
  • You have hard cover available.
  • A teammate is covering Noor.
  • You are already outside the dangerous area.
  • Staying exposed would cost too much health.
  • You need to continue the push immediately.

Wait before removing it when:

  • Noor has a clean angle on you.
  • You are standing in an open doorway.
  • You have no teammate support.
  • You can retreat safely.
  • Removing the Lance would expose you.
  • Another Defender is holding the same angle.

The important principle is:

  • Don't let Noor choose your removal location.

How to Punish the Horus Lance Removal

This is where the shield matchup becomes much more interesting. The Lance's removal animation is a vulnerability window. Hands-on Noor testing has shown that certain Defender abilities can exploit that animation directly. Echo's Yokai can interrupt the removal, while Oryx's Remah Dash can also interrupt it. Lesion can continue damaging the affected shield operator while they attempt to remove the Lance.

That creates an important lesson for shield players: The Lance itself is only half the problem. The removal animation can become a second trap.

Echo

Echo is one of the strongest examples. If the shield operator attempts to remove the Lance and Echo successfully interrupts the animation with Yokai, the attacker can be forced to remain exposed while the Lance continues doing its job. This means attackers should not assume: "I reached cover, so removing the Lance is automatically safe." Check for supporting utility first.

Oryx

Oryx can also exploit the removal window. His Remah Dash can interrupt the Lance removal animation, leaving the shield operator exposed. This makes Oryx particularly threatening when he is positioned close to the route the shield operator is using to retreat.

Lesion

Lesion offers a different type of pressure. His Gu Mines can continue dealing damage to the shield operator while they are attempting to remove the Lance. That means a shield player who is already under pressure from the Horus Lance may have even less time to complete the removal safely.

The counterplay for attackers

If you know Noor is supported by Echo, Oryx or Lesion, be even more careful about removing the Lance. Your priority becomes:

  • Break Noor's supporting setup.
  • Move behind reliable cover.
  • Check the removal location.
  • Have a teammate cover the removal.
  • Remove the Lance only when the interruption risk is manageable.

The Biggest Mistake Shield Players Make

The biggest mistake is assuming that the Horus Lance must be removed where it was attached. It doesn't.

If the Lance is attached while you are pushing a doorway, you can often retreat behind cover first. That changes the entire exchange.

Instead of: Lance → immediate exposure → death

you can create: Lance → retreat → cover → teammate pressure → safe removal

This turns Noor's successful gadget hit into a temporary interruption rather than an automatic elimination.

How to Fight Noor Without Losing the Push

A Noor counter strategy should not revolve around one shield operator fighting him alone. Treat Noor as a team problem.

Step 1: Drone Noor's position

Before sending Montagne, Blitz or Osa into a choke point, identify where Noor is playing. His gadget is strongest when he knows exactly where the shield operator must go.

Step 2: Force Noor to use the Lance early

You can sometimes pressure Noor into wasting a charge. If he fires too early and misses the important push, the attacking team has removed one of his limited resources.

Step 3: Attack from multiple directions

Noor is strongest when attackers are forced through one doorway. Make him choose. If one attacker pressures from the front while another approaches from the side, Noor may have to abandon his prepared Lance position.

Step 4: Punish Noor when he commits to the launcher

Using the Horus Lance gives Noor a different priority from normal gunfighting. A coordinated teammate can pressure him while he is focused on placing or firing the gadget. If Noor is isolated, this becomes particularly valuable.

How Teammates Should Help a Shield Operator

A shield operator should rarely deal with Noor alone.

Cover the removal

The simplest support strategy is to cover Noor while your shield player removes the Lance.

For example:

  • Montagne: gets Lance attached.
  • Second attacker: watches Noor.
  • Montagne: moves behind cover and removes Lance.
  • Team: resumes the push.

This is much safer than forcing Montagne to remove the device while Noor has an uninterrupted angle.

Use utility to force Noor away

Attackers can also use utility to make Noor abandon his preferred position. The objective is not necessarily to kill Noor. You simply need to prevent him from sitting comfortably behind the same defensive setup.

Don't stack behind the shield

A shield operator can protect teammates, but clustering everyone behind the same entry route makes Noor's area denial more valuable. Spread the attack. Give the shield player another angle to retreat toward.

⬆ Back to Table of Contents

Best Attackers to Pair With Montagne, Blitz or Osa

Noor is much harder to deal with when the shield operator has proper support.

Montagne + ranged support

Montagne can create the pressure while another attacker holds the angle that Noor needs to play. The goal is to make Noor hesitate before firing the Lance.

Blitz + entry support

Blitz should create the threat while teammates capitalize on the Defender's distraction. Don't make Blitz fight Noor completely alone.

Osa + rifle support

Osa can create protected sightlines while another attacker pressures Noor from a different angle. This makes it harder for Noor to simply wait for the Talon shield to become the obvious target.

Noor's Best Shield Targets

Noor's gadget is designed around shield denial. The most obvious targets include:

  • Montagne
  • Blitz
  • Osa
  • Blackbeard
  • Fuze

Ubisoft explicitly describes Noor as a counter to shield operators. But that does not mean every shield engagement should be treated identically.

  • Montagne — Force him to abandon his protected position.
  • Blitz — Punish predictable aggressive entries.
  • Osa — Distinguish between her held and deployed Talon-8 Shield.
  • Blackbeard — Use the Lance to force movement and disrupt his protected angle.
  • Fuze — Punish shield-led positioning before he can comfortably set up.

Noor Shield Counter Tips

  1. Never remove the Lance in Noor's crosshair — If possible, move behind cover first.
  2. Don't enter a choke point without information — Noor becomes much stronger when he knows exactly where your shield player must go.
  3. Force him to waste charges — Noor has a limited number of Lance projectiles, so every missed or poorly timed shot matters. Ubisoft confirms the launcher carries five projectiles.
  4. Attack Noor from another angle — Make him choose between his shield counter and the rest of the attacking team.
  5. Osa players should distinguish held and deployed shields — A carried Talon-8 Shield and a deployed Talon-8 Shield do not present the same Horus Lance interaction.
  6. Don't let Noor control the tempo — If he successfully stops your push, rotate instead of repeatedly feeding the same doorway.
  7. Watch for supporting Defenders — Echo, Oryx and Lesion can make the Lance removal significantly more dangerous by interrupting or damaging the shield operator during the removal process.
  8. Don't remove the Lance on autopilot — The Lance is designed to make you panic. Take a second to evaluate the angle before exposing yourself.

Why Noor Is Strong Against Shield Pushes

Noor changes the fundamental shield equation.

Normally, a shield operator wants to create a situation where: Shield + doorway = safe advance

Noor can change that to: Shield + doorway = Horus Lance target

That forces attackers to reconsider how they approach defensive positions.

Ubisoft's own description of Noor emphasizes this purpose: disrupting attacker momentum and forcing players to rethink shield-led pushes.

The best shield players will therefore stop treating Noor as something they must directly defeat. Instead, they should treat him as an obstacle that must be out-positioned.

⬆ Back to Table of Contents

Is Noor a Hard Counter to Montagne, Blitz and Osa?

No—but he is a major threat to all three.

Noor has a direct advantage against shield-based pushes because the Horus Lance can attach to shields and force the operator into a vulnerable removal action.

But the matchup depends heavily on:

  • Noor's positioning
  • Attacker information
  • Teammate support
  • Available cover
  • Entry route
  • Whether the shield operator is holding or deploying their shield
  • How many Lance charges Noor has remaining
  • Supporting Defender utility

A coordinated attacking team can therefore make Noor's job considerably harder.

Noor Shield Counter FAQ

Can Montagne remove the Horus Lance?
Yes. The affected shield operator can move the shield aside and remove the Lance, but doing so exposes them during the removal process. Ubisoft specifically identifies this vulnerability as part of Noor's shield-counter design.

Should Montagne immediately remove the Lance?
Not necessarily. If Noor has a clear line of sight, moving behind cover before removing the Lance can be much safer.

Can Blitz counter Noor with speed?
Blitz's mobility can help him avoid predictable Lance setups, but blindly rushing Noor can make the matchup worse. Use speed to change the angle rather than simply charging into the prepared position.

Can Noor penetrate Osa's shield?
The interaction depends on whether Osa's Talon-8 Shield is being held or deployed. Current gameplay references report different behavior between the two states.

Is Osa safe from Noor while holding her shield?
She has a different interaction from stationary shield utility, but she should not assume she is completely safe. Noor can still control surrounding surfaces and punish predictable movement.

What should I do if Noor attaches a Lance to my shield?
Move toward cover if possible, avoid exposing yourself directly to Noor, check for supporting Defender utility, and coordinate with teammates before removing the device.

Can Echo stop a shield operator from removing the Lance?
Yes. Echo's Yokai can interrupt the Lance removal animation, making Echo one of the most dangerous supporting Defenders for a shield operator caught by Noor.

Can Oryx interrupt the Horus Lance removal?
Yes. Oryx's Remah Dash can interrupt the removal animation and leave the shield operator exposed.

Can Lesion damage a shield operator while they remove the Lance?
Yes. Lesion's Gu Mines can continue adding damage while the affected operator is dealing with the Lance.

How do I stop Noor from countering my shield push?
Don't give him a predictable entry. Use drones, alternate routes, teammate support and pressure from multiple angles.

Should I avoid shield operators when Noor is picked?
No. A shield operator can still provide enormous value against a Noor lineup. The key is changing how you approach the round.

Final Verdict

Noor is one of the most direct counters to shield-led attacks in Rainbow Six Siege, but the Horus Lance does not automatically win every shield encounter.

The most important counterplay is understanding the Lance removal window. If you remove it while Noor has a clean angle, you may expose yourself exactly where he wants you. If you retreat behind cover, bring teammates into the fight and force Noor to divide his attention, the same Lance can become nothing more than a temporary interruption.

The matchup becomes even more dangerous when Noor is supported by Echo, Oryx or Lesion, because those Defenders can exploit the Lance removal window directly.

Against Montagne

Retreat, create cover and coordinate the Lance removal.

Against Blitz

Use mobility and alternate approaches instead of rushing directly into Noor's setup.

Against Osa

Understand the difference between a held and deployed Talon-8 Shield and avoid becoming dependent on one stationary position.

Against Noor's supporting Defenders

Check for Echo, Oryx and Lesion before committing to the removal.

The overall rule is simple:

Don't fight Noor on his terms.

Make him reveal his position, force him to spend Lance charges, attack from multiple angles and remove the gadget only when you have created a safe opportunity.

Noor is designed to stop shield momentum. Your job as the shield player is to keep that momentum alive without giving him the exposure he needs.
