Cyberpunk 2077 Clampdown Not Starting? Wakako Text Missing Fixes

Updated October 26, 2026

Cyberpunk 2077 in-game Journal menu showing the active quest 'CLAMP DOWN' with the objective 'Go to the meeting point near BuryGer', alongside a 5-step quick fix guide to trigger Wakako Okada's missing text message.

The Clampdown quest in Cyberpunk 2077 Update 2.5 should become available after you complete the required story progression and enough gigs for Wakako Okada. However, some players find that Wakako never sends her message, A Request from King, even though they have already finished the necessary missions.

If Clampdown is missing from your Journal, the problem may be an unfinished prerequisite, a message you haven't opened, or a delayed quest trigger.

Before restarting your playthrough or completing every Wakako gig, try the checks below. This guide explains the unlock requirements, possible fixes for Wakako's missing text, where to find the BuryGer meeting point, and how to confirm that Clampdown has started correctly.

Quick Answer: How to Fix Clampdown Not Starting

To unlock Clampdown, you need to complete The Heist and at least two gigs for Wakako Okada. After meeting these requirements, Wakako should send a message titled A Request from King.

If her text isn't appearing, try these steps:

  1. Confirm that Cyberpunk 2077 is updated to version 2.5 or later.
  2. Finish The Heist and progress into the open-world portion of Act 2.
  3. Complete at least two Wakako Okada gigs.
  4. Open your phone and check Wakako's existing message conversation.
  5. Travel to MLK & Brandon in Arroyo, Santo Domingo, and visit the nearby BuryGer diner.
  6. Spend a few minutes in the area, then check your messages again.
  7. If nothing happens, continue another activity, try advancing in-game time, or reload your save.

Visiting MLK & Brandon has helped some players receive the missing message, but there is no guaranteed fix for every affected save.

Once Wakako's message arrives, reply to her, track Clampdown, and travel to BuryGer to wait for King.

Clampdown Unlock Requirements: What Do You Need?

Clampdown is a side job introduced in Cyberpunk 2077 Update 2.5. It becomes available after you meet the required story and fixer-gig conditions.

You must meet two main progression requirements before Wakako contacts you.

1. Complete The Heist

Finish the main story mission The Heist, which takes place at Konpeki Plaza with Jackie Wells.

If you are still in Act 1, continue the main story. You should also progress through the immediate follow-up missions until V regains access to Night City.

2. Complete Two Wakako Okada Gigs

Finish at least two gigs assigned by Wakako Okada, the fixer associated with Westbrook.

These must be Wakako's gigs. Completing jobs for Regina Jones, Padre, or other fixers does not satisfy this requirement.

You can check your completed jobs in the Journal if you are unsure which fixer assigned them.

You do not need to complete all of Wakako's gigs to unlock Clampdown.

3. Wait for A Request from King

After meeting the requirements, Wakako should contact V through a text message titled:

A Request from King

Read the message and respond to Wakako.

She introduces King, a mercenary who needs help with a dangerous operation, and directs V toward a BuryGer restaurant in Arroyo.

If you have already met the requirements but cannot find this message, continue with the troubleshooting steps below.

How to Fix Wakako's Missing Message in Clampdown

If The Heist and two Wakako gigs are complete, but A Request from King has not arrived, try these methods in order.

Fix 1: Check Wakako's Existing Text Conversation

The quest invitation arrives as a text message, not as a normal phone call.

You may have missed the notification while driving, fighting, or completing another objective.

  1. Open V's phone.
  2. Navigate to Messages.
  3. Find Wakako Okada.
  4. Open her conversation.
  5. Look for A Request from King.
  6. Read the message and select the available reply.

If Wakako sends the meeting location, open your Journal and look for Clampdown.

What to check: The quest should direct you toward a meeting point near BuryGer.

If the message isn't in the conversation, try the next method.

Fix 2: Visit MLK & Brandon Near BuryGer

One of the more promising workarounds is to visit the location where Clampdown normally begins.

Some players have received Wakako's missing message after traveling to MLK & Brandon, near the BuryGer restaurant in Arroyo.

To try it:

  1. Open the Night City map.
  2. Find Arroyo in Santo Domingo.
  3. Locate the MLK & Brandon fast-travel point.
  4. Fast travel there.
  5. Head toward the nearby BuryGer restaurant.
  6. Remain in the area for several minutes.
  7. Check your phone for Wakako's message.

You can walk around the diner and surrounding streets while waiting.

Important: Visiting MLK & Brandon is a community-reported workaround, not an official unlock requirement. There is no confirmed amount of time you must spend there, and simply reaching the restaurant does not guarantee that the quest will activate.

What to check: A new Wakako message or a Clampdown entry in your Journal.

If nothing appears, move on rather than waiting indefinitely.

Fix 3: Continue Playing Instead of Only Skipping Time

If visiting BuryGer doesn't help, leave the area and resume normal gameplay.

Try completing another available side job, gig, or activity. You can also drive through Night City rather than repeatedly fast traveling between the same locations.

After completing an activity, check your messages again.

Some delayed quest messages arrive during ordinary gameplay, even when repeatedly using Skip Time has not helped.

What to check: A new notification from Wakako after finishing another activity.

Fix 4: Advance In-Game Time

You can also try using the Skip Time feature.

  1. Open the character or pause menu.
  2. Advance time by approximately 24 in-game hours.
  3. Return to gameplay.
  4. Check Wakako's messages.

If necessary, continue another activity before checking again.

This is a troubleshooting attempt, not a required unlock step.

There is no confirmed fixed waiting period that guarantees A Request from King will appear.

If skipping time once or twice does nothing, try another method instead of repeatedly advancing several days.

Fix 5: Reload Your Save and Restart the Game

If the quest still doesn't appear, save your progress before attempting a reload.

On PC or console:

  1. Create a new manual save.
  2. Exit the game completely.
  3. Restart Cyberpunk 2077.
  4. Load your saved game.
  5. Check Wakako's messages and the Journal.

If you have an earlier save from before completing the second Wakako gig, you can also test whether finishing that gig again triggers the message.

However, do not overwrite your current progress just to test this.

Fix 6: Check Mods and Game Files on PC

If you play with mods, particularly those that alter quests, phone messages, or progression, they may complicate troubleshooting.

Try temporarily disabling relevant mods using the appropriate procedure for your mod setup, then test the quest on a separate save.

You can also verify the game's installed files through your PC launcher if you suspect missing or damaged game data.

Neither method is a confirmed Clampdown-specific fix, but both are reasonable checks when multiple quests or messages are behaving incorrectly.

Important: Keep a backup of your saves before changing or removing mods.

Where Is MLK & Brandon and the BuryGer Meeting Point?

The Clampdown meeting point is near the BuryGer diner in Arroyo, Santo Domingo.

The nearby MLK & Brandon fast-travel point makes it relatively easy to reach.

Once the quest is active, the Journal objective reads:

Go to the meeting point near BuryGer

Follow the objective marker toward the diner.

Look for the outdoor seating area near the restaurant, including a table and chairs beneath a yellow parasol.

How to Wait for King at BuryGer

When you reach the correct location, the objective changes to:

Wait for King

  1. Approach the marked diner chair.
  2. On PC, the interaction offers an option to wait.
  3. Select it and V will sit down at the table.

After a short time transition, King contacts V by holocall.

He explains that his crew member Miguel has been imprisoned and needs to be rescued from Night City Prison.

You can then continue the conversation and accept the job.

[Screenshot: frame_00-10-02_Event.jpg showing the Wait for King objective and diner chair interaction.]

If you can see the Wait for King objective, the missing-message stage is already behind you. You should focus on the marked chair rather than trying to trigger another text from Wakako.

Received A Request from King but Clampdown Won't Progress?

Not every Clampdown starting problem involves a missing message.

The correct next step depends on what your Journal currently displays.

Wakako's Message Is There, but No Quest Marker Appears

Open the conversation and make sure you have replied to her message.

Then check the Journal for Clampdown and manually track it if necessary.

The destination should be near BuryGer in Arroyo.

The Objective Says Go to the Meeting Point Near BuryGer

Travel to the diner and approach the outdoor seating area.

You do not need to enter Night City Prison yet.

The first meeting takes place outside the restaurant.

The Objective Says Wait for King

Find the marked chair and use its wait interaction.

King contacts you after V sits down.

He does not need to appear physically at the restaurant.

King Has Already Called You

Continue the dialogue and accept his request to rescue Miguel.

Once the briefing is complete, follow the updated objective toward Night City Prison.

If the mission later becomes stuck during the Armory sequence, see our Cyberpunk 2077 Clampdown Stuck Waiting for Meshuga? Armory Bug Fix.

That is a separate progression problem from Wakako's missing invitation.

What Doesn't Guarantee a Clampdown Fix?

Several suggestions circulate for getting Clampdown to start, but they are not confirmed unlock requirements.

Grinding Street Cred

You do not need Street Cred 50 to start Clampdown. The quest's unlock conditions do not specify a Street Cred threshold, so grinding levels is not a confirmed solution.

Completing Every Wakako Gig

Only two Wakako gigs are required. You can complete more while continuing normal gameplay, but finishing her entire gig list is unnecessary.

Skipping Several In-Game Days

Advancing time may help with delayed messages, but no fixed 24-hour or 48-hour waiting period guarantees the quest will appear.

Standing at BuryGer Indefinitely

Visiting MLK & Brandon has helped some players, but it does not work on every save. If nothing happens after a few minutes, try another method.

Restarting Your Playthrough

Do not start a new game solely because Clampdown is missing. Check the requirements, preserve your saves, and exhaust the less disruptive options first.

What Happens After Clampdown Starts?

Once King briefs V at BuryGer, the mission turns into a prison infiltration and rescue operation.

You'll need to enter Night City Prison, help Miguel escape, recover your equipment, and deal with the prison's Reaper chip system.

Several later objectives can be confusing, especially when the game introduces different terminals and chip-deactivation choices.

If you reach Security Cortex and cannot identify the correct terminal, our Cyberpunk 2077 Reaper Chip Server Location guide explains how to find it and deactivate the required chips.

Later, Crisis Control presents a decision between activating and deactivating the prisoners' Reaper chips. Our King or Meshuga choice guide explains what each option does and how it affects the prisoners.

For now, your first priority is simply to receive Wakako's invitation and reach King's briefing at BuryGer.

Final Troubleshooting Checklist

If Clampdown still isn't appearing, work through this checklist:

  • ☐  Cyberpunk 2077 Update 2.5 or later is installed.
  • ☐  The Heist and its immediate story follow-ups are complete.
  • ☐  At least two Wakako Okada gigs are finished.
  • ☐  Wakako's phone conversation has been checked for A Request from King.
  • ☐  MLK & Brandon and the nearby BuryGer area have been visited.
  • ☐  Normal gameplay or another quest has been attempted.
  • ☐  Optional: Advanced in-game time and checked Wakako's messages again.
  • ☐  A manual save has been created and the game restarted.
  • ☐  Optional for modded PC installations: Checked relevant mods and game files.

The most important point: Clampdown does not require completing every Wakako gig or reaching Street Cred 50.

If you've met the requirements but Wakako's message is still missing, checking her existing conversation and visiting the BuryGer area near MLK & Brandon are sensible first steps.

Once A Request from King arrives, reply to Wakako, head to the diner, and use the Wait for King interaction to begin the prison-break mission.
