Expendables 3 adds New Cast Members: Rourke, Snipes, Chan

Preparations for “The Expendables 3” seem to be in full swing. After Sylvester Stallone recently announced that he found a new director, Patrick Hughes, who can bring in some fresh air into his mercenaries series. Earlier this month he tweeted, “Antonio B. …? Could be.” This led to speculation that Banderas could appear in Ex 3 but probably just a dream candidate for Stallone, as well as Harrison Ford, Nicolas Cage and Clint Eastwood. We will see the return of Mickey Rourke, who played the role of Tool in the first movie. Also, Wesley Snipes, who had just been released from prison confirmed to show up in the film. A further indication that Hong Kong and Chinese martial arts expert Jackie Chan could possibly be on board, Stallone recently tweeted saying "What's the plan? Ask Jackie Chan ..."

Many people compared the Expendables 2 with Gareth Evans' The Raid: Redemption. And the result was usually made in favor of The Raid. More solid storyline with fast paced, tightly choreographed fight sequences let Ex: 2 look a bit outdated. Young director Gareth Evans just seems to have more appetite for action as Simon West, director of The Expendables 2. This could be a reason why Stallone has hired Patrick Hughes for ex: 3, who previously directed only one feature film “Red Hill”, starring Ryan Kwanten.

Stallone believes that he can do better than The Raid, which he considered to be an excellent film.
