Straw Dogs is Coming Home before Christmas

Film-goers love to complain about Hollywood remakes-never as better as the original, they say-but they still turn out in drove to watch them. Sony Pictures Home Entertainment is bringing their latest remake of the classic film Straw Dogs to DVD and Blu-ray on December 20, 2011. The DVD will be available for the price of $30.99 SRP and the Blu-ray will be available for the price of $35.99 SRP. The releases will contain bonus materials and extra features such as Director Commentary, Courting Controversy: Remaking a Classic, The Dynamics of Power: The Ensemble and many more.

Straw Dogs follows the screenwriter David Sumner (played by James Marsden) and his wife Amy Sumner (played by Kate Bosworth). They both returned to their old house in Mississippi with the hope of peace and quiet so David can finish his newest script, a WWII drama about the Battle of Stalingrad. When their garage has fallen into poor shape they hired four locals to fix it, one of whom is his wife’s ex boyfriend Charlie Venner (played by Alexander Skarsgard). As the nervousness between David and Charlie builds up to a terrible act of violence, David must confront and stop Charlie’s brutality with an equal force of savagery.

Some of the minor details have been changed in the remake while staying true to the original movie and the book. Those that loved the 1971 classic movie will probably find little value in the remake, but for those who haven't seen it, the newest version of the film does offer a humble taste of the greatness you're missing out on.
