Co-written and directed by Anthony Payne based on the novel by Kaui Hart Hemmings. The plot of The Descendants is nothing short of gloomy. The characters integral to the story are subjected to the distresses that many people try to prevent, yet often encounter anyway. The film deals with the problems of Matt King (played by George Clooney) whose wife Elizabeth King (played by Patricia Hastie) is seriously injured in a boating accident and now in a coma on life support. Matt tries to keep his two children Alexandra (played by Shailene Woodley) and Scottie (Amara Miller) together while dealing with his relatives, who are forcing him to sell a family land situated on the beautiful Hawaiian coastline. When he finds out that his wife was have an affair, he gathers his children and begins a journey to Kauai to sort out his emotional conflicts that brings his family closer together.
George Clooney delivers a solid performance as a father coping with the tragedy of his wife and with his alienated children who are amazingly good actors themselves. Although Clooney has performed in many Television shows and movies, he's well known for his humorous side and has not had a lot of chances to showcase his range as a performer. This movie gives him plenty of opportunities and probably it is his finest performance to date. The film has some breathtaking scenery in Hawaii and the musical score perfectly complement the mode of the film.
Fox home entertainment will be releasing The Descendants on DVD and Blu-ray on March 13, 2012. The DVD will be priced at $29.98 SRP while Blu-ray disc will cost you $39.99 SRP.
