The Spanish actress Paz Vega is most likely known to many as murderous dancer in "The Spirit". Now, she joins actor Jeremy Renner (The Bourne Legacy and The Avengers) in the political thriller “Kill the Messenger.”
The plot is based on a true story of the American journalist Gary Webb who became famous in the 90's for his series of articles about the CIA connection to drug trafficking in South America. However, this eventually led to lose his job and a few years later he was killed under mysterious circumstances. The authorities declared his death a suicide.
Michael Cuesta, who already showed largely responsible for the award-winning U.S. series "Homeland", will helm the project. Peter Landesman will pen the script based on the two books "Dark Alliance: The CIA, the Contras, and the Crack Cocaine Explosion" by Gary Web and Nick Schous "Kill the Messenger: How the CIA's Crack-Cocaine Controversy Destroyed Journalist Gary Webb".
There's no word yet on the production start date or when it will come out in theaters. In the meantime, Paz Vega’s newest film Standby Lovers is currently showing in theaters.
