In this quick guide, we’ll show you how to link or merge your Overwatch (OW1) and Overwatch 2 (OW2) accounts and continue your progress, which includes your cosmetics, your statistics, your presets or even your ranks on Overwatch 2.
Normally, your two game accounts are automatically detected
and linked by Blizzard. In the event that your progress has not been taken into
account, here is the procedure to follow:
Log in to Overwatch with your console account
Follow the on-screen prompts to scan a QR code with your
smartphone
Enter the code displayed on your console to log in to your
Blizzard Battle.net account or to create a new one
When this is done, you can confirm your account the next time you log in to the game and merge your accounts
It is only possible to associate one account per platform and that if you have chosen the wrong game account, it is possible to unlink it, but you will not be able to redo a link in a year as it was explained by Blizzard.
Update:
Fix the account merging bug
If you encounter the error message "Account merging is
not working" when attempting to link your Overwatch and Overwatch 2
accounts, well, this is a known issue and
the developers are working to fix it. For the time being you can try the
following:
- Make sure to merge the two desired accounts, make no mistake, because if you made a mistake, you will have to wait a year before re-merging accounts.
- It is also important to note that only one account per platform can be merged. Therefore, if players have two accounts on the different platforms PC, Xbox, PlayStation or Switch, unfortunately they will only be able to merge one.
- If you encounter the error message while playing OW2, we recommend that you check the status of the game's servers and potentially if a message has not been posted on Twitter.
If the servers don't seem to have any issues, you can always uninstall the game and reinstall it. In some cases, this can fix the issue due to corrupted or partly incomplete or even missing game files.
