Google Pixel Fold: Tips to customize your new GPF phone

The first official Google foldable phone, Google Pixel Fold (GPF), is now available and in this tutorial will share some useful tips on how to personalize your new GPF phone and enhance your daily interaction with the device.

How do you change the name of your device?

The first thing you need do is go to settings, then go all the way down to "About phone" and make sure to give your phone a unique / suitable name. So tap on Device name and rename your Pixel Fold to something you are going to be familiar with. The name you entered will be displayed to other users when you connect through Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, or a Wi-Fi hotspot. This will also personalize your phone and makes it yours.

Use Tabletop mode

Tabletop mode enables hands-free viewing, so if you have the YouTube app open and split the screen, the video will play on the top screen while you can access the stats, comments, and other information on the bottom screen. To exit this mode, simply unfold your device.

Use Fingerprint (Touch ID) or facial recognition security (Face ID):

To set up a Fingerprint or Face ID: go to settings - Security and privacy and under Device lock you have Screen lock and Face and Fingerprint Unlock. Enter your password / pin to use them. Please note that the fingerprint sensor is built in to the power button on the side. So always scan the device to ensure that there are no privacy or security issues.

Use Spatial Audio:

To use Spatial audio - go to sound and vibration - scroll down and there you can find it.  You can use Spatial audio even if you are using the phone speaker or wired headphones. This feature will give you a more immersive experience as you're listening to music or watching movies or videos on your Pixel Fold.

Battery Saver - how to extend the use of your Pixel Fold phone when the battery is low?

Go to Settings - Battery - Battery Saver - activate the standard battery saver. This will activate the Dark theme and also starts to conserve some battery life while limiting some power on the phone. However, If don't have access to a charger, you can actually set it in Extreme battery saver mode. So, it is activated automatically when the battery saver is turned on.  As a result, the phone's functionality may be limited but you'll have more battery life to use it for the essentials like making calls and sending messages.
