The developer Niantic will release a new update called "Buddy System" for its popular augmented reality game Pokemon Go for iOS and Android. The new feature allows you to go with a monster on the map and make candies, sweets that serve to evolve him. Learn how it works in detail:
The new feature allows you to have only one Pokémon following his coacher or trainer. Thus, it appears not only on the screen but also on the map, next to the portrait.
There are four categories of Pokémon Buddy revealed: Medium, Shoulder, Big and Flying. They represent where the creature will be positioned when you are allocated a partner trainer. Worth the warning: Pokémon become trainer of partners cannot be sent to Gyms or used in combat.
How it works
To activate, simply go to the menu and select your desired Pokemon. Press the "Buddy System" button to choose it as partner Pokémon.
Candy reward
Candy rewards will be given each kilometer you traveled, similar to what currently happens with the system of hatching eggs in Pokémon Go. One, two or three kilometers traveled you may get candies, according to the type of monster.
The least amount of kilometers needed to evolve a Pokemon will be 25, with a Rattata. The highest will be 400 kilometers, with the Magikarp.
Candy Count
Most Pokémon will give only one or two candies for each kilometer driven. Only a few rare will, at most three. The size or type does not influence in this specific case.
The following Pokémon will give candies when used as companions: Omanyte, Omastar, Kabuto, Kabutops, Aerodactyl, Snorlax, Articuno, Zapdos, Onix, Hitmonlee, Magmar, Pinsir, Lapras, Hitmonchan. Chansey, Mr. Mime, Scyther, Jynx, Electabuzz, Eevee, Vaporeon, Jolteon, Flareon, Moltres, Dratini, Dragonair, Dragonite, Mewtwo and Mew - although some of them are not in the game at the time.
The Buddy System facilitates the evolution of Pokémon that are not easily find on the map, mainly because they are rare, and also help make the game more visual. The fellow Pokémon coach will work visually similar to Ash's Pikachu, the main character of the cartoon.
Easter Egg in buddy system
Besides the advantage that your buddy finds in exploring candy, the buddy system is the way to bring additional bonuses with them. The local Pokémon fans are already encountered a great Easter Egg: If you as a buddy travels with Pikachu 10 km, then it jumps on your shoulder and then sits there. It is a really nice feature, but with no additional benefit.
In the bellow chart you can find how many kilometers your Buddy has to travel to find a candy in Pokemon Go:
